How to Fix Surface Pro Battery Life
Every Surface Pro provides users with a battery life estimate in the battery meter in the taskbar. If this meter suddenly has a lower estimate than it has in the past, act fast so your battery lasts longer.
Start by adjusting the screen brightness on your Surface Pro. Open the Action Center by swiping left from the right edge of your screen. Now tap the button with the light icon. Keep tapping to change how bright your screen gets. The lower the brightness setting, the more battery life you will save.
You can use the Battery Saver utility to further improve battery performance. Open the application. Click . Then select it from the menu on the left. Have your Surface Pro turn on Battery Saver when it’s running low on power. Use the option at the top of the screen to see which apps and programs are hurting your device’s battery life.
Close Programs from Task Manager
Heavy programs running in the background can consume memory and processing power. To temporarily increase the performance of your Surface Pro, close any programs you are not using.
Task Manager will tell you which programs are occupying resources. Use your mouse to hover over the Windows button on the taskbar. Choose from the drop-down menu. Click Use list to close apps that consume resources. Don’t close a background task if you’re not sure what it’s doing. Some background tasks are very important for Windows.
Restart your computer
If you think an update might be responsible for some performance issues of your Surface Pro, restart your Surface Pro. Open the Start Menu by tapping the Windows button. Tap the power button and select .
Check for updates
Surface Pro slows down as it prepares to install major updates in the background. Ending these updates immediately will bring your device back to peak performance.
Tap or click . Click . Let the pending updates finish installing. Now restart your Surface Pro. Your Surface Pro should work better after the update.
Remove Unused Programs
Programs you install on your Surface Pro can seriously affect battery life and performance. Programs can run in the background without your knowledge and constantly put a load on your processor and RAM.
Uninstall programs you don’t use. Open the application. Click Use this list to remove programs you don’t use.
Turn off Cortana
A background task lets you call Cortana with a voice command. Turning Always Listening off disables this background task and may improve the performance of your Surface Pro.
Tap or click the search bar on your screen. Click the Settings cog on the left side of the Cortana window. Now turn off the “Allow Cortana to Reply to Hey Cortana” option.
Reset or Restore Your Surface Pro
If you’re still seeing performance issues, reset your Surface Pro. A reset removes any programs you have installed to bring you back to peak performance. Your videos, images, and documents stay where they are if there’s enough free storage space.
Go to the app. Tap or click Select from the menu on the left.
