If you don’t have a problem updating your apps manually, try disabling Automatic Downloads on your device, at least temporarily.

Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store. Once there, you’ll want to toggle the switch to turn off Updates located in the Automatic Downloads section. You can also turn off other options.

Disable Widgets

If that’s the case, select them all (after you’ve done this you’ll see a checkmark on the right) and then click Clear Browsing Data.

Stop Background Refresh

Background App Refresh works in the background to keep your apps updated with new data. For example, your Facebook feed will be constantly updated without you having to actually open the app.

Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and turn off Background Refresh. This will turn it off completely.

You can also review your application list one by one and make your choices according to the situation. This is tedious, but if you want to keep this feature alive for your core apps, this is the way to go.
