How To Fix Bad iOS 11.4 Beta Battery Life

Severe battery drain is just one of the issues plaguing iOS 11.4 beta testers. If you’re experiencing bad iOS 11.4 beta battery life and don’t want to revert to an older version of iOS 11, try one of the solutions below.

iOS 11.4 beta users have been complaining of a number of issues, including severe battery drain. This is a common iOS issue, especially with pre-release software that isn’t ready to be officially released to the public.

If you run into battery issues, your first instinct might be to revert to an older version of iOS 11. This is definitely an option, but you’ll want to try and manually fix your issue before resorting to this.

This guide will provide some fixes and strategies you can use if your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch’s battery life starts to spiral out of control with iOS 11.4 beta.

It will only take you a few seconds to complete some of these tips. Others are a little more involved. We recommend setting aside 15-20 minutes of quiet time to see what works for you and your device.

Restart your device

If you start noticing serious battery drain on your device, try restarting your device. Press and hold the power button, slide to power off. Open it again.

Follow Your Applications Closely

Apps can be extremely problematic in iOS beta software, and there’s a good chance that one or more of your apps is causing your device to work harder than it should.

If your battery life is bad, it’s time to start a search on your apps. To do this, go to Settings > Battery and meet the Battery Usage tool. It will show you the apps that consume the most battery and when they do so.

If you see anything out of the ordinary, try deleting that app to see if your battery life improves. If you determine that the drain is not the source, you can always reinstall it.

If you prefer to keep the app, try installing the latest version to see if it helps. If automatic updates aren’t turned on, go to the App Store on your iPhone or iPad and check for updates.

Disable Widgets

Widgets are everywhere in iOS 11. If you have many active widgets, they may be draining your devices’ battery life. It’s time to give them a hand.

Swipe right on your device’s home screen. Scroll all the way to the end of your widgets and select Edit. That circular icon.

You should now see a pretty long list of services and apps. These are your widgets. To disable a widget, tap the red circle with white lines and then tap Uninstall.

Try disabling widgets you never use first. If you don’t use widgets at all, try disabling them all.

Use Low Power Mode and Take to Control Center

iOS comes with a handy Low Power Mode that can help conserve your battery without having to manually turn off many of your device’s functions.

To enable Low Power Mode on your device, go to Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode > turn it On when you need it.

Use Low Power Mode and store it in Control Center.

iOS 11 also allows you to put a shortcut to Low Power Mode in Control Center. Control Center is accessed by swiping up from the bottom of your device’s screen.

We recommend keeping a shortcut in Control Center for easy access.

Use Airplane Mode Whenever Possible

If you start seeing battery draining fast, try putting the phone in Airplane Mode.

Accessible from your Settings app or Control Center, Airplane Mode cuts off all your connections, including Bluetooth, cellular data, and Wi-Fi.

We recommend that you always use Airplane Mode when your device is in a spotty service area. This can cause your device to overwork and drain your battery abnormally.

Manage Your Screen

Some iOS 11.4 beta users are reporting issues with the auto-brightness functionality. This may be a blessing in disguise for some of you.

Sensors inside iPhone and iPad automatically adjust the display in certain lighting environments. Sometimes these sensors work perfectly. Sometimes they are closed. If your screen is excessively bright for no reason, you may be costing yourself a few battery percentage points.

We recommend turning off Auto-Brightness, at least temporarily. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > View Accommodations > Auto-Brightness > Off. You have to manually adjust the screen brightness after turning it off. This is extremely easy in iOS 11.

Pull up the Control Center and adjust the screen as needed.

Disable Raise to Wake

Disabling iOS 11’s Raise to Wake feature can also save you a few points. If you’re not using it, try turning it off.

To turn off Raise to Wake, go to Settings app > Display & Brightness and turn off Raise to Wake. If running out of battery continues to bother your device, you can turn it back on.

reset all settings

If none of these tips help, try resetting your device’s settings.

To get started, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings and enter your password if enabled.

This process takes about three to five minutes and will reset your device’s settings to their factory defaults. Make sure you have all your Wi-Fi passwords handy as your device will forget them all.

Buy Battery Case or Battery Bank

If you have some cash around, consider getting a battery case or battery bank for the duration of the iOS 11.4 beta or longer if needed.
