If your phone isn’t lasting as long as expected, here are 10+ tips to fix Galaxy Note 8 battery life issues. Samsung’s phone has a lot to offer, but it’s not perfect, especially since it’s almost two years old now.
Owners have gotten a huge boost in performance and battery with the Galaxy Note 8 Android Pie update, known as One UI, but that’s not enough for everyone. If you still want or expect better battery life, here are some settings to change, options to consider, and quick tips for delivering the best experience. We’ll also help you find and fix any potential issues that drain your juice.
How To Fix Bad Galaxy Note 8 Battery Life
Samsung phones have tons of options, controls and settings that you can change for a better experience. While some are great, others drain the battery even if you’re not using it. We’ll cover that and many more tips below. Additionally, you can take advantage of Samsung’s battery saver modes and performance modes to get the most out of your phone. These tips will help you get more battery life from your phone or find out what is draining your phone too fast.
Galaxy Note 8 Android Pie Problems
Before we go over everything else, we want to fix some Android Pie issues as this update is new. An enhanced experience for some, but not for everyone. Some people are dealing with new problems. One, in particular, related abnormal battery consumption. Samsung’s One UI software is great, but it’s also brand new and Samsung will have a few bugs to fix.
Fortunately for you, we have prepared a detailed guide to Galaxy Note 8 Android Pie issues and fixes. This will help you understand One UI update, Pie issues and more. Otherwise, here are some general battery saving tips and options.
Find Apps That Eat Your Battery
Our first recommendation is to always check for malfunctioning apps. If you want to fix your bad Note 8 battery life, check out the running apps in the settings menu. Faulty apps cause all sorts of problems including phone battery drain.

Whether these are pre-installed apps or something you downloaded from Google Play, chances are a rogue app is causing the problem. This applies to all Android devices, not just Samsung’s new Note.
If you use an app a lot, it will drain your battery. At the same time, there are some situations where an app uses an abnormal amount and we try to avoid it. We’ve seen this with the Oculus app that Samsung has pre-installed on phones and even Facebook.
On the left, the app that uses the most battery is actually the Android system resource. This is normal, but if you see another app at the top there is a problem. If this happens, make sure to close the app or even try uninstalling and reinstalling it.
Go to to see what’s going on.
We also recommend updating apps during or after the Android 9 Pie update. Even Samsung’s own Galaxy App Store has lots of updates to make apps ready for Google’s latest operating system.
Restart Your Galaxy Note 8 to Fix Battery Life
There are many different things that can cause your Note 8 to run out very fast. Sometimes the easiest way to stop it is a simple reboot. If you notice that the battery is draining too fast, simply restart the phone; It will most likely fix itself.
This sounds like silly advice, but you’d be surprised how many minor issues are fixed with a simple reboot.
Disable Always On Display
The Galaxy Note 8’s most loved feature is the Always On Display. Small clock, date, notifications and battery meter always on display even when screen is off. This is a customizable always-on display.
Samsung claims that the AOD feature will consume less than 4-5% during an 8-hour workday. So while there’s a slight difference, turn this feature off if you’re looking for every possible advantage. Go to ve.
Screen Brightness and Sleep Time
That said, the Always On display will likely improve battery life, not make it worse. This is because most users check their phone more than 140 times a day. Just turn it on to check the clock or a notification, that’s all. The feature we mentioned above cuts that down, so we suggest you continue.
Instead, make sure to press the power/sleep button when you’re done using the phone so the screen doesn’t turn on for no reason when you’re done. In addition, it is equally important to control the screen brightness and sleep timer.
Set the brightness to 50% or less and reduce it. Leaving the Note 8 on auto-brightness isn’t the best for battery life. The screen is already very bright, so turn it down if you’re not outside.
We also recommend turning off the “screen timeout” option while in the display settings. This is how long the phone stays powered on before the screen goes blank and turns itself off after each use. Samsung uses 1 minute, but we recommend trying 30 seconds. Now, every time you use your phone, it’s not sitting on an open desk or table for a minute at a time. Check their phone no more than 140 times and you will quickly consume all your battery life.
Use Black Wallpaper
It’s not for everyone, but using Black wallpaper will also increase battery life. This is because Samsung’s AMOLED display technology works differently than most phones. It is easier and more efficient when displaying black instead of color. Pixels don’t need to be turned on individually – or very high – to display a black image.
After downloading a beautiful wallpaper, long press an empty area of the screen and go to Wallpapers to apply it. This only helps a little, but combine it with all our tips and you’ll see good results.
WiFi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth and GPS
Again, each piece helps if you put it together for more than 8-10 hours a day. However, if you are not using WiFi or Bluetooth, turn them off. Connecting to WiFi whenever possible saves battery life. However, if you’re not using WiFi but are constantly trying to find and connect to someone, it will take a toll on battery life.
Another reason the battery drains so fast is GPS. Be it Google Maps or Facebook Messenger trying to find your location. Google Maps isn’t all that accurate when this is turned off, but disabling the GPS chip indicates significant battery life improvements.
Go to option, then select “Battery Saver” or medium WiFi and Mobile networks.
Turn Off Galaxy Note 8 Features You Don’t Need
As we said earlier, Samsung phones have tons of software features. Some are extremely useful while others drain the battery for no reason.
Any previous Galaxy owner knows all about many gestures or gesture controls. If you’re not using them, turn them off to help save juice. Like swiping one hand over the screen to take a screenshot, keeping the screen on if the sensors see a face facing down, and more. There’s even an instant call feature by placing the phone to your ear while reading a text message. Use them if you want, turn them off if you want.
Go to things like Smart Capture, Palm Swipe Capture, Direct Call, Easy Mute and turn them off and disable “Smart Stay” in display settings. All of these need power and sensors inside the phone for things we rarely use.
Battery Saver and Performance Modes
Then try Samsung’s built-in battery controls, savers or performance mods. you will find below performance modes. Basically, owners can choose what works best for them. This will change the screen brightness and resolution, even slowing down the process of extending battery life throughout the day. Click here for more information. Also, Google has added some battery optimizations to Pie that will help over time.
One thing to mention, changing these settings will mess up your home screen and icon positions. This is because they adjust the screen resolution. The changes are minor, but average users will benefit from what Samsung has to offer here.
What’s next?
Before we close with a few last minute tips, we want to talk about what’s next. This will be another Android 9 Pie update with tons of bug fixes. Then, we’ll finally see Android Q this year.
Frankly, the Android 9 Pie One UI update won’t fix every issue, and we’ve actually seen a few new ones pop up so far. That said, the new One UI software is brand new and Samsung will be releasing a few updates over the next 3 months to improve things. Either way, be prepared for the Note 8 Android Pie update if you haven’t already and everything else it includes.
Other Battery Tips and Tricks
At the end of the day, battery life always depends on how you personally use your phone. Some are heavy users, some are not. Another app worth checking out is BetteryBatteryStats. This program shows you which apps are using what and highlights potential problems. It’s a pretty powerful app that will give you more insight into your usage habits.
Another thing to consider is Bixby, Samsung’s virtual assistant. Don’t use wake commands that always listen or customize how much Bixby does. This will also help with battery life.
Last but not least is Airplane mode. Turn on Airplane mode when you don’t need your phone for calls, texts or internet. This setting turns off all data, radios, services and more and can last 4-5 days when most phones are activated. If you’re traveling, give it a try. I’ve also found that deleting apps I no longer use or restarting the Note 8 once a week helps too. This gives the phone a clean slate and fresh start, not to mention interruptions from apps that clog the system.
In closing, here are a few tips for common problems and we’ll update this post with more battery saving tips in the near future.
