WhatsApp is one of the most used messaging apps in the world. It is used by both young and old. Tech-savvy and younger educated users will find WhatsApp usernames (name visible to others with your number) and number easy to find, while older people and the technologically challenged may find this task difficult.
Add to the fact that most Android phones now support dual SIM and you’re looking at confused faces. If you are, don’t be upset. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to find WhatsApp number and username on both Android and iOS smartphones.

1. Find My WhatsApp Number and Username on Android
Launch WhatsApp on your Android smartphone and tap on the three-dot menu and select Settings from there.
You should see your name there along with your profile picture at the top. Tap once on it and you will see your name and registered mobile number on WhatsApp.
You can only use one mobile number on your WhatsApp. The app does not allow users to create and manage two accounts from the same smartphone, although most phones these days support two SIMs. However, there are ways to circumvent this limitation and install another instance of WhatsApp. You can then choose to create a second WhatsApp account on the same phone and use it at the same time.
Xiaomi smartphone users can use the built-in Dual App feature to clone WhatsApp on their phones immediately. No need to install and learn how to use a third-party app.
If you want to change your name or mobile phone number, click on the corresponding value. For example, tap your name and your keyboard app should launch automatically. Enter the name you want and tap on Save.
The steps are a little longer when you want to change your WhatsApp number. The number is used to verify your account and you must verify it again when you change it. Tap the number and then tap Next. You will see a notification informing you that you will be moving your account with all its data to this new number. The number must be active and the SIM must be in your smartphone.
WhatsApp will automatically detect your country code, but if there is, check for errors. You will first enter your current WhatsApp number and then the new WhatsApp number you want. Tap Next.
You will now receive an OTP to your new WhatsApp number to verify ownership. If the app cannot detect the OTP automatically, enter it manually and continue. You will now see three options to notify your contacts of your new WhatsApp number.
Note: If you use the same phone to change your WhatsApp number, your chat history will not be deleted. This is possible on a dual SIM Android phone where you only change the number, not the smartphone itself. If you are changing phones, get a backup.
2. Find My WhatsApp Number and Username on iOS
Android and iOS smartphones work differently, but WhatsApp remains more or less the same. Here is a complete breakdown of how to find and change your username and number on WhatsApp.
Open WhatsApp on your iPhone or iPad and under Settings tap your name next to your profile picture.
Here you will find your name and mobile phone number. Tap the name to change it. Your default or chosen keyboard app will launch automatically when you select the name.
To change your mobile number to a different SIM number, go back and tap Account and select Change Number.
You will see a notification screen where they will explain what will happen if you change your WhatsApp number. Just like on Android, all your account data including settings, groups and other information will be transferred to this new number. The process is irreversible. Tap Next when you’re ready. You will now enter your old or current WhatsApp mobile number followed by your new or preferred mobile number.
An OTP will be sent to the new number to verify the transaction. If the SIM is on a different iPhone or not automatically detected, enter the OTP.
Depending on your internet speed, the transfer process may take some time. You should now see all your WhatsApp data on the new number. Just like on Android, you will see three options to notify your contacts of your mobile number change. Choose one according to your needs.
