How to Find Lost or Stolen Windows 10 Device

Ever since PCs first became portable, users have struggled with the same issues that plague other portable electronics. Battery life, portability and theft. With the first Windows 10 update, Microsoft took care of battery life and portability. A toggle allows users to instantly change their settings to turn off battery life settings and apps. Better hardware makes Windows 10 devices thinner and lighter than ever before. Even after Windows 10 was released, we wondered how to find lost devices with the operating system.

We expect there will be a way to find our lost devices. Every user with an Android smartphone can install applications that allow their phone to be tracked in case it is lost. Always a pioneer, Apple was among the first smartphone manufacturers to add some tracking feature for everyone. There are many stories about how the feature became useful. Microsoft has mostly settled into its own hands, leaving device recovery features to hardware partners and companies that specialize in such software, such as LoJack.

Microsoft finally bowed to the pressure with the Windows 10 November Update. It includes features that allow users to track their devices. This feature does not require users to pay any extra and there is no software to install. Windows 10 users still need to turn the feature on, though, and Microsoft isn’t fully emphasizing the feature in update-related releases. Here’s how to turn on and use Find Your Device in Windows 10.

Note: Before You Begin and Setting Up Find My Device These Windows 10 how-tos are only for users who have set up Find My Device in Windows 10. Users who have already lost their device should go to the last part of this tutorial if they already have the feature turned on.

If your version number is equal to or higher than this number, it’s fine.

The Windows 10 November Update is slowly rolling out to anyone working overtime. Don’t worry, Microsoft will arrive on your machine if they haven’t already. Users who upgrade to Windows 10 after the update is announced should have this version automatically.
