When you’re in the middle of a Zoom video meeting at home and your cat suddenly decides to start barking for dinner, you’ll want to mute it right away. In that case, you have a choice: you can either reach for your mouse or touchpad and start looking for the “Mute” button, or use a quick keyboard shortcut to mute that sound right away.
Zoom has a long list of keyboard shortcuts you can use before or during a video conference. You can quickly join a meeting using these shortcuts; mute and unmute the sound; start, pause and stop recording; Change views from Speaker (a large image of the person speaking) to Gallery (several equally sized images, no matter who is speaking); and perform various other tasks.
You can easily find a list of these tasks and shortcuts you can use in your Zoom app:
- Go to Zoom settings by clicking the gear in the upper right corner
- Select “Keyboard Shortcuts” in the left menu
Shortcuts are grouped under four categories: Meeting, Chat, Phone, and General. If you want to see all the available keyboard shortcuts, be sure to open each category by clicking the arrow to the right of the category name.
A note: The keys you press on a Mac or Windows PC will be different, but no matter what platform you use, these shortcuts can be really useful when a laptop is in Zoom search.
