How to Export Chrome Passwords to CSV on Desktop, Mobile, and Web

The transition from Google Chrome’s built-in password manager to a dedicated service like LastPass, 1Password, or Dashlane should be seamless. However, not all services or conditions allow you to import your data directly from Chrome. That’s why you should export your Chrome passwords to a CSV file before adding them to your preferred service.

Chrome, fortunately, has the ability to export your passwords to CSV file format. Not only can you do this on desktop, you can also get a CSV copy on mobile versions of Chrome (Android and iOS). Also, if you’ve used Chrome Sync to back up and sync your passwords, you can also use Google’s Password Manager web portal (via any web browser) to download them in CSV format.

Let’s explore all the ways you can use to extract your login credentials to the CSV file format below. We’ll start with the desktop version of Chrome for PC and Mac.

Warning: Anyone can easily read passwords from a CSV file. Remember to delete the data after transferring it to another password management tool or service.

If you’re using Chrome on a PC or Mac, you can quickly get a copy of all saved login credentials by diving into the browser’s integrated Passwords management screen. The steps below should show you how.

Stage 1: Click your profile icon in the upper-right corner of the Chrome window. Click the Passwords icon in the Profile pop-up window.

If you use Chrome Sync, your passwords are automatically saved in your Google Account. This means you can sign in to any browser (not just Chrome) with your Google Account credentials and download your passwords directly from Google servers.

Note: If you use a Sync Password to secure your Chrome data, you won’t be able to access or download your passwords directly from your Google Account.

Stage 1: Visit the online Password Manager at passwords.google.com using any web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, etc.). Sign in with your Google Account credentials when prompted.

Password Takeout

Unlike importing passwords from a CSV file into Chrome, exporting them is incredibly easy. However, you must protect the CSV file, as it contains passwords for almost every login portal you log into. Remember to permanently delete the CSV file as soon as possible after you’ve finished exporting its data elsewhere. Or if you intend to keep it for safekeeping, be sure to store it in a safe place.
