Many Zoom meeting participants cannot share their screen. This is because by default, Zoom only allows the host or co-host to share their screen. If the host wants other attendees to share the screen, they must enable screen sharing for the attendees. We will guide you exactly on this.
When screen sharing is disabled for attendees in Zoom, they will receive a notification saying ‘Host has disabled attendee screen sharing’. To fix it and allow others to share the screen, the host must grant permission to share the screen.
So, if you are the host of a Zoom meeting, the steps below will help you enable screen sharing for participants. Let’s check out how to enable screen sharing on Android, iOS and desktop. We’ll cover the steps for individual meetings first, then enable screen sharing for all meetings by default.
How to Enable Screen Sharing for Participants in Zoom on Desktop
You can allow attendees to share their screen for the current meeting using one of the following two methods.
Method 1
When you join a Zoom meeting, click the Security tab in the bottom bar of the Zoom window. Under ‘Allow attendees’, click the Share screen to enable it. When enabled, participants will have the ability to share the screen.
Pro Tip: Similarly, you can enable or disable other features such as chat for participants, rename themselves, and unmute from the Security setting.
Method 2
When you join a meeting, click the small arrow next to Share screen. Select Advanced sharing options.
A popup window will open. Click All participants under the Who can share setting. Click the Close (X) icon in the pop-up box to save the setting. Now other participants can share their screens.
Tips for Screen Sharing on Desktop
As a host, you get a few other privileges regarding screen sharing. You can allow multiple participants to share screens at the same time instead of a single screen. To do this, click the small arrow next to Screen sharing. Then click ‘Multiple participants can share at the same time’.
Similarly, when you click on Advanced sharing options and enable screen sharing for all participants, you can change who can share the screen while someone else is sharing. The two options are host only and all participants. Choose according to your need.
How to Enable Screen Sharing for Participants in Zoom on Android, iPhone, and iPad
To allow screen sharing of existing meeting participants as the host on mobile devices and tablets, follow these steps:
Stage 1: Join your Zoom meeting using the host account.
step 2: Tap the Settings tab. Select Meeting Settings from the menu.
Stage 3: In the Allow attendees to section, enable the toggle next to the Share screen.
Pro Tip: As the host, you can enable/disable chat or revoke the ability of participants to unmute and rename themselves from the same screen.
Ask meeting attendees to check out now. They should be able to share their screen using the Share button in Zoom apps.
How to Enable Participant Screen Sharing for All Meetings
The above methods only allow you to enable screen sharing for the current meeting. If you, as the host, are hosting several meetings where attendees need to share their screens, you can enable a default setting for the same feature in your account. This way, screen sharing is enabled for all attendees in all meetings you have as the host.
To do this, you need to open your Zoom account settings from the Zoom website. Here are the steps:
Stage 1: Open the Zoom website and log in with your Zoom account.
step 2: Click Settings from the left sidebar.
Stage 3: Under the Meeting tab, click In Meeting (Basic).
Step 4: Scroll down and you will find the Screen sharing settings. First, enable the toggle next to Screen sharing. Then under Who can share, select All participants.
You can even enable or disable annotation for screen sharing on this screen. Also, if you want, you can customize what participants can share by enabling the toggle next to Disable desktop/screen sharing for users.
Troubleshooting: Zoom Screen Sharing Not Working
As a meeting attendee, if you encounter ‘Host has disabled attendee screen sharing’, you must first inform the host. It may be that he forgot to enable the setting. In case they enable it and you still get the same error, exit the meeting and join again. This should fix the issue. If that doesn’t fix the issue, sign out of your Zoom account and sign in and join the meeting.
If you are not getting this error but still cannot share your screen, you must restart your device (mobile or PC) first. Then follow the correct steps to share the screen on Zoom.
Also make sure you are running an updated version of the Zoom app and whether screen sharing is compatible with your device. Zoom supports screen sharing on Android devices running Android 5.0 or later and iOS devices running iOS 11 or later.
