Android Q is finally here in an early beta form, and it brings a host of great new features along with lots of changes under the hood for faster app launch, better support for upcoming foldable phones, and more. However, if you’ve been waiting for a screen recorder built into Android Q, you’ll be glad to know it’s here, at least discreetly. Here’s how you can enable the built-in screen recorder in Android Q.
Enable Screen Recording in Android Q
- Inside Settings, get over your head’About phone‘ and if you haven’t already, tap the Build Number 7 times to open developer mode.
- Go now system, and tap on Developed.
- Here, go Developer OptionsTap on ‘ andFeature flags‘ under Debug.
- Enable the toggle next to ‘settings_screenrecord_long_press‘
- Now only hold the power buttonand when the power menu pops up, hold down the button. ‘Screenshot’ choice. You will see right now screen recording menu popup. You can enable recording sounds via microphone and enable or disable the ‘show touches’ option. When done, just tap on ‘start recording.’
That’s it, screen recording will start and you can drag it down in the notification shade to stop, pause or cancel the recording.
Note: This feature is still in the early stages of development and while it worked fine on our Pixel 2, it wasn’t working as expected on the Pixel 3 XL, so your mileage may vary.

Record Screen with Ease on Android Q
Now that you have enabled the built-in screen recorder in Android Q, you can easily start recording your screen whenever you want without having to download a third-party app and granting unnecessary permissions to your device. While the screen recording functionality is problematic in its current state, we are confident that Google will fix the issues during beta updates before finally releasing Android Q in the third quarter of this year.
