note: I have the one-handed keyboard enabled on my iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 6s, but they should work on older iPhones as well as the new iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X.

Using the One-Handed Keyboard in iOS 11

The one-handed keyboard can be used well, especially when eating or drinking, or when one of your hands is not clean. The procedure is quite easy and the keyboard can be activated in a few seconds. So, to do this, simply follow the steps below:

  • After entering the keyboard, Tap and hold the emoji icon located under the keyboard and choose left or right keyboard depending on your preference.

  • That’s pretty much all you need to do to enable the one-handed keyboard. Now you can easily type with one hand on your iPhone. When you want to stop using the one-handed keyboard, tap the arrow icon located right next to the keyboard.

One-Handed Third-Party Keyboards Supported

It’s certainly impressive that Apple added one-handed support for its default keyboards, but third-party keyboards Blink, flexible, minimum, etc. they have been doing this for a while. Well, if you’re not a fan of the default keyboard on iOS, you can take advantage of one of these apps for all your one-handed needs. Personally, the Blink keyboard is the one I would recommend, as the one-handed layout works pretty similar to the default keyboard and has ample room for customization.
