How to Enable LG G3 One-Handed Operation

If you are one of those who prefer the new LG G3 over a model like the HTC One M8 or Samsung Galaxy S5, you will want to know about all the additional features, settings and controls available in the new smartphone. One thing many won’t think about when buying a large 5.5-inch device is using it with one hand, but thankfully LG has settings for just that.

The new LG G3 is packed with advanced features and premium features, including a smartphone-first laser autofocus and an impressive 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD display. And while the screen is stunning for watching videos, it comes at a price as not everyone has hands large enough to comfortably use it with one hand.

As with the latest Samsung Galaxy Note series, LG has integrated some key features and customizable settings to make using the LG G3 a little easier with one hand. Read on for a series of quick instructions and videos showing you how to enable One-Handed Mode on the new G3.

Recently Apple has been touting how easy it is to use the iPhone 5S with one hand because its screen is so small, but like many others, the new iPhone 6 is said to have a large 4.7 inch display and we even have a 5.5 inch iPhone. I heard you’re coming. If that’s the case, these users will experience the same dilemma here, but luckily there is a fix.

Following in Samsung’s footsteps, LG has added a “One-Handed” mode to its settings menu, which allows users to set lock screen pins, keyboards and even dialer all the way left or right for easy one-handed use. Here’s how to do it.

Instructions

Enabling One-Handed Mode on the LG G3 is indeed extremely easy, but once you do, there are no instructions on how to actually change the keyboard position that most buyers will want this feature. Below is a video showing exactly how to do it and how to take good measure.

Go to settings by pulling down the notification bar and tap the gear-shaped settings button. From here you will navigate to the last column called “General” and find the controls in it. The fifth option, labeled “One-Handed Operation,” is where you need to go. Then simply tick the boxes for which features of the device you want to use with one hand.

G3-hand settings

LG only has options for keypad, keyboard and lock screen pin, but those are the only super important areas for this feature. The new Galaxy S5 makes Android as a whole easier to use one-handed by allowing the user to operate the entire device on a specific part of the screen, but LG didn’t need to go that far.

However, if you want to enable one-handed operation on the new LG G3, watch our how-to video below.

After enabling the one-handed operation mode, you can go to the dialer and see the arrows for the side you want to relocate the keys for easy access and the same method works on the keyboard as well. Oddly enough, some apps appear with arrows to move the keyboard left/right, while others don’t, and a simple swipe from the edge of the screen will move it for you, as shown in the video above.

It’s worth noting that even with this setting enabled, you can leave the keyboard in the middle and swipe to move only when needed, and swipe to reveal it again with ease. This allows the user to enable this setting only once and use it as needed. Try One Hand Mode today and enjoy the new LG G3.
