As we await the release of the system-wide dark mode for iPhone with iOS 13, app developers are already incorporating this feature into their apps. The newest app to join the group is Facebook Messenger, which brings a nice dark mode for you if you know how to enable it. Since the feature is still in testing, it’s not publicly available yet, but there’s a cheeky way to enable it on your device right now. So, if you are interested in using the dark mode in Messenger on Android or iOS, here is how to enable the hidden dark mode:
Enable Incognito Dark Mode on Facebook Messenger
Facebook has implemented an easy and fun process to enable dark mode. Even if you haven’t read this article, you probably would have discovered it yourself. However, if you don’t want to wait for the discovery to happen, here’s how you can enable dark mode in a few easy steps.
1. Launch Facebook Messenger and send ???? Emoji (ay) to any of your contacts. You can even send it to yourself if you want.
2. After sending the emoji, Facebook will notify you that you have found a dark mode. Just Tap on “Try in Settings” and then enable “Dark Mode” Toggle.
3. When you enable it, your Messenger chats will look like this. It’s beautiful, isn’t it?
Note: If it doesn’t work automatically, simply force close the app and restart it.
I must say that this approach, which allows users to discover the dark mode, is quite good and will certainly please users who discover it themselves.

Enjoy Dark Mode in Facebook Messenger
I love that companies include these simple nuggets for users to discover. I also like that Facebook Messenger uses a true dark mode, not a bit of blue (when looking at Twitter) or dark gray. Let us know how much you enjoyed the new dark mode by writing in the comments below.
