Long before iOS 10.3 was released, there were many rumors about a new Dark Mode that Apple was supposedly working on. After the update was released, people were disappointed by the lack of such mods. Now, you can expect these rumors about Dark mode to be over by then, but that was clearly not the case. Analysts have predicted it will be made available by Apple in the upcoming iOS 11 update, but now that Apple’s WWDC Keynote has ended, we know almost all the features that iOS 11 brings, and Dark mode is not one of them. However, when we tried out the iOS 11 beta 1 for developers, we noticed a certain feature embedded in it that came close enough to a fully developed dark mode that we’ve all been waiting for. Well, here’s how you can Enable incognito dark mode in iOS 11:
Note: I tried this on an iPhone 7 Plus and an iPhone 6 running the latest iOS 11 beta 1 for developers, so this should work for you too.
- go Settings Tap the app on your iOS device and tap on it. “General” and then go “Accessibility” settings.
- Here, tap on “Screen Accommodations” and tap on “Invert Colors”.
- Now, enable “Smart Invert” by moving the slider. Now you will notice that you have a dark mode-like experience while browsing iOS as shown below.
Smart Invert mode is far from perfect. Areas where Smart Flip mode is flawed include images, third-party icons, and apps that make it look like a negative color mode rather than a dark mode. However, we hope that third-party apps will be updated to support this new feature.
Quickly Switch Between Dark Mode and Normal Mode
Given that the Smart Invert feature, namely Dark Mode in iOS 11, is a bit flawed in some places, you might want to quickly switch between dark mode and your normal mode. Well you can do this triple clicking the home button. Here’s how to enable it:
- To start Settings->General->Accessibility. Here, scroll down to the bottom and tap on it. “Accessibility Shortcut” and check”Smart Invert Colors”.
Once done, you can triple-click your home button to switch between normal and dark mode in iOS 11.

The Smart Invert mode may not be the Dark Mode you’ve been waiting for, but it’s definitely something for any fan who has lost their patience. As long as you’re reading text-based content, this new mod might be good enough for you for a dark mode-like experience. However, after viewing image-based content, you may want to quickly return to normal mode.
