How to Enable Do Not Disturb While Driving in iOS 11

Apple introduced many new features with the latest iOS 11 software update, which was recently released to the general public. One of the highlights is called “Do Not Disturb While Driving” for iPhones and is an important step towards road safety. Smartphones are the main cause behind most traffic accidents, and Apple wants to alleviate that problem with this nifty new feature. Basically, it restricts all notifications and incoming calls while driving, so you can avoid unnecessary distractions and focus on the road. However, if the iPhone is connected to car Bluetooth or any handsfree accessory, the feature will allow incoming calls. So, if you want to take advantage of this feature on your next ride, let’s take a look at how to enable do not disturb while driving in iOS 11:

note: I’ve tried this on the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 6s, but it should work on the new iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X as well as older iPhones.

Enable Do Not Disturb While Driving in iOS 11

The procedure is far from complicated and all you need is just a few minutes to set it up. So, just follow these steps to avoid any confusion:

  • hungry “Settings” Go to the app on your iPhone and “Do not bother” episode. Here, if you scroll down a bit, you will notice the Do Not Disturb While Driving section. Just tap on “Activate”.

  • In this menu you can: choose one of three options To take advantage of the Do Not Disturb While Driving feature. If you have set “Automatically”, the feature will turn on by itself detecting your movement. On the other hand, if you set “Manual”, you can enable/disable the feature from Control Center. That being said, we think “When Car Connects to Bluetooth” This is the most practical way to use this feature, as it will only activate when the car is connected to Bluetooth devices. That’s why we chose this option on our iPhone.

Add Do Not Disturb While Driving Toggle Control Center

If you’ve selected the manual option for Do Not Disturb While Driving, you’ll need to enable or disable it directly from iOS 11’s Control Center. However, by default, there is no toggle for this feature in Control Center. That’s why you need to add the toggle button to the Control Center before you can quickly turn it on or off. So, to do this right away, simply follow these steps:

  • hungry “Settings” Go to the app on your iPhone and “Control Center” Menu. Now, just tap on “Customize Controls”.

  • In the next menu, you will have the option to add it. “Do Not Disturb While Driving” Switch to Control Center. Once done, swipe up from the bottom of your screen to bring up iOS 11’s revamped Control Center if you want to enable the feature. Now, just tap on car icon To stop receiving notifications
