How to Enable/Disable Private MAC Address in watchOS 7

watchOS 7 brings a host of great hidden features and changes. However, one of the very useful changes I noticed in watchOS 7 is custom MAC address support for the Apple Watch. So, if you’re interested, here’s how to enable or disable private MAC address in watchOS 7.

How to Use Private MAC Address on Apple Watch

Enabling (or disabling) the private MAC address is pretty simple. If you actually updated to watchOS 7, the custom MAC address setting is actually turned on by default. However, if you have it disabled or just want to change it manually, just follow the steps below.

  • Go to Settings on your Apple Watch.

  • Scroll down and tap on ‘WiFi’.
  • Tap the name of the WiFi network your watch is connected to.

  • You will see the custom MAC toggle. It will be on by default, but you can also enable it manually if it isn’t.

That’s it, your Apple Watch will now use a special MAC address. This way, you can ensure that your network provider cannot track your Apple Watch using the MAC address associated with it, as watchOS keeps changing it dynamically. This feature is also available in iOS 14, by the way. Speaking of which, you should check out our video on some of the best privacy features in iOS 14.
