Google Photos is packing a lot of AI-based features these days, making it a compelling choice for many people, myself included, to use it as the default Gallery app to view photos and videos. However, retina blinding white mode has always been a huge hit for using the app in the dark, and as someone who prefers dark mode almost wherever possible, I really had a hard time tolerating white mode. Google has finally introduced a server-side dark mode to Google Photos for a wide range of Android devices. However, if you’re curious or impatient to try dark mode right now, here’s how to enable dark mode in Google Photos right now.
Note: This only works on devices running Android Pie and higher, as the Night mode toggle in Developer Options has been added in Android Pie. If you’re using a smartphone running an older version of Android, you’ll have to wait for Google’s server-side rollout to arrive on your Android device.
To get started, update your Google Photos app to the latest version available on the Google Play Store.
Enable Dark Mode in Google Photos on Pixel devices
1. Open the Settings app and Settings -> Display.
2. Under Display Settings, scroll down until you find it. Device contact.
3. Tap the device theme and Dark and the next time you open Google Photos, you’ll have the popular dark mode in Google Photos.
It’s worth noting that since Google’s goal is to create a universal control for dark mode in the operating system, changing the Device theme to Dark will also turn Quick Settings and some other Google apps dark.
Enable Dark Mode in Google Photos on other Android devices
If you’re not a Pixel owner, don’t worry. You can still enable dark mode for Google Photos. To do this, follow the steps below.
1. Gain access Developer Options can be done by touching Build number Found seven times on About Phone.
2. Go to Developer Options from: Settings -> System and scroll down until you find night mode.
3. Tap on Night Mode and tap “Always” and start enjoying dark mode in Google Photos.
The Night Mode toggle follows the same principles as the Device theme. That is, if a dark version of the app is available, all apps that rely on the Night Mode toggle will switch to dark mode.
