This is great news for iPhone users as they can now do basic editing of their videos without having to download any third-party video editing app. In this article, we’ll show you how you can edit videos using the Photos app in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13.
Editing Videos Using the Photos App on iPhone
Note that iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 are available in beta (both developer and public) as of now. The Cupertino-based company is expected to officially launch these operating systems in September (second or third week of the month). So, you can wait until then or install the iOS 13 beta right now to enjoy the great new features.
iOS 13 Video Editing Features and How to Use It
In this article, we will focus on individual video editing features and how you can use them to edit your videos in the photo app. But before we move on to video editing, let’s see how we can make a copy of our videos so that we have the original video even if something goes wrong.
Note: Video editing in the Photos app on iOS 13 isn’t disruptive. That said, it’s always good to have a backup file.
Duplicate Your Video
To me, the first step in video editing is to make sure you already have a copy file. You’ll always have the raw file to go back to, just to make sure the editing isn’t producing the desired result for your clip and you want to start over.
1. Start Photos app and select the clip you want to edit.
2. Tap . “To share” button at the bottom.
3. Now, swipe up from the bottom and “copy” on the menu. This much! A duplicate file will be created and saved in your photo library.
Now that you’ve created a duplicate file, let’s get to editing, shall we?
1. Filter Videos

6. After selecting the video filter you want, be sure to press . “Completed” Now in the lower right corner, wait a few moments until your clip is saved to confirm the change.
2. Rotate Videos
So, you shot a video in portrait orientation and now you want to change the orientation to landscape or vice versa? This is pretty simple to do. Let me show you how it’s done quickly.
1. Start stock Photos app and select the video you want to edit.
2. Now, tap on “To organise” in the upper right corner and then“crop icon” below.
Next up, “spin button” to give your video the direction you want.
On the same screen, you have many super useful tools to ideally adjust your clip. Tap on “arrow button” In the upper left corner to turn the face left or right, you can also fix it, give the clip a portrait or landscape view. To do this, select the preferred option and then slide the horizontal dial left/right to adjust.
There is also an option Reset Changes. Use when you are not happy with the change and want to start from scratch.
4. Finally, tap on it. “Completed” to finish.
3. Mute/Unmute Video Audio
Depending on your needs, you can also choose to mute/unmute your video.
1. Open the stock Photos app on your device and select the video.
2. Tap . “To organise” button.
3. Now, tap . “volume” button to mute/unmute your video. Later on, tap on “Completed” To confirm the change
4. Trim Videos
Trimming videos is one of the most basic video editing tools needed to edit a video. Fortunately, you can easily trim videos using the Photos app in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13.

2. Tap . “To organise” Press the button in the upper right corner.
3. Next, tap on “.video symbol” below.
4. Next, Drag the small handle on either side of the video to remove the unwanted part.
You can swipe left/right on the thumbnail to browse a specific part of the clip. When you’re happy with the result, tap on it. “Completed” To confirm clipping
Adjust Brightness, Exposure and Saturation of Videos
The Photos app for iOS 13 comes with a wealth of adjustment tools that allow you to edit your videos efficiently. For example, you can fine-tune the brightness, exposure, saturation, and even use the auto-enhance tool to edit your clip.

Revert Your Videos to Original
What if you are not happy with your edit and want to completely get rid of all the changes made to the video? As I told you, video editing in the Photos app is inherently non-destructive, which means you can always revert to the original. And here’s how to do it.
1. Start Photos app and find the video in question. Then tap on it.
2. Now, tap on “.To organise” button.
3. Next, tap on it. “Turn back” in the lower left corner. Next, tap on “Back to Original” to approve.

Now that you have edited the video, you can share it with anyone using Messages, email, WhatsApp and other media.
