How to edit a free PDF?

Surely you’ve tried to modify a PDF and run into the challenge if you’re using a classic PDF reader. This is not surprising as the format is designed to be non-editable. Many tools promise to provide this feature, but in most cases the best you can do is add comments, comments, or highlight text before you can actually edit the document.

You can edit a PDF for free as long as you have Microsoft Office. Word makes it easy to edit a PDF, also for converting a PDF to a Word document. What the app does is really convert the original format in the first place. You can then edit the document and save it as PDF again. Or in .docx according to the desired output format.

  • open Microsoft Word
  • enter inside File > Open > Browse
  • Upload the PDF file from your hard drive
  • Wait a few seconds while Word converts the PDF to an editable file
  • You can now place the cursor anywhere and make your changes.
  • Finally, save the document by choosing the desired format (PDF or docx).

If you want to edit a PDF from a smartphone for free, the process is pretty much the same. You will need to download the mobile version of Microsoft Word. Then open and edit the PDF you want to edit (save a fresh copy first).

  1. download Microsoft Office for Android or in the App Store if you are using iOS
  2. open word
  3. Tap on the bottom right. Openchoose This device and download the PDF from its location on your smartphone. Word tells you that the file will be converted. Press OK and wait a few seconds.
  4. press on a pencil and a leaf icon at the top of the toolbar.
  5. To edit the PDF, Word first prompts you to save a copy in .docx format.
  6. Then make your changes
  7. Finally, save a copy as PDF (or other) again.

That’s it, now you know how to edit a PDF for free and easily. No need for Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, one of the few software that allows this. However, this solution works and is very expensive.
