With the release of iOS 12, many power users got excited about the new Shortcuts app as it allows them to automate tasks on iOS, something that was not naturally possible before. One of the best things about shortcuts is that you don’t have to learn to create your own shortcuts as you can download and install pre-built shortcuts to enjoy these features.
One of these pre-built shortcuts is the “Social Media Downloader” or SDM shortcut that allows users to download videos from social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter. If this is something that interests you, here is how you can download videos from social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter using Shortcuts in iOS 12.

Now, before starting this tutorial, I would like to point out that you should never use someone else’s videos on your own social media platform without their explicit permission. This shortcut is to be used to get your own data from these sites or perhaps for educational purposes like a class report or project, but please never use this feature to download copyrighted content or violate privacy. Other than that, let’s see how you can use this shortcut.
- Firstly, download and install Shortcuts app from the App Store, if you haven’t already.
2. After installing the application, click the link. download social media downloader shortcut. To do this, first tap the “Get Shortcut” button and then tap “Open”.
3. Now that you have installed the shortcut on your device, open Twitter or Instagram on your phone. I will be using Twitter for this tutorial.
4. Let’s say you find a tweet with embedded video. Tap on the share button and then select the “Share via Tweet…” option.
4. Select Shortcuts in the Sharing menu. If it doesn’t appear in the Sharing menu, tap “More” and enable it.
5. Select the “SDM” shortcut that we have added on the next page. It will go through its steps, so don’t worry if you see it working on its own. After parsing the link, it will present you the video quality options.. Select the one you want to start downloading.
That’s it, the video will be automatically downloaded and added to your Photos app. You can download any embedded video with this shortcut. Isn’t this a handy way to share videos with your WhatsApp group or watch offline?
