How to Download and Install Fonts on Windows 10/11

Windows offers many options when it comes to pre-installed fonts. Whether you’re working with a simple text editor like Notepad or something like Illustrator, you have many options. However, there are times when the default fonts are not enough and we need more. For those times, Windows allows users to install fonts on the system with ease. So if you want to install fonts you downloaded on Windows 11 (or Windows 10) or if you’re looking for a new font in general, you’ve come to the right place. Read on to learn how to do this.

In this article, we will consider all the ways to install fonts on Windows 10 and Windows 11. We will also discuss how you can download new fonts to use on your Windows PC. As always, you can use the table of contents to navigate this article.

How to Install Fonts in Windows 11 and Windows 10

There are several ways to install fonts on Windows 11 and Windows 10. We will detail three different methods for this. If one doesn’t work for you, switch to the other.

Method 1: Use Source File

The easiest and simplest way is to use the font’s source file. You may have noticed that the downloaded file will come in a compressed ZIP folder. So before we start installing the font we will need to extract it. Follow the steps below to extract and install various fonts in Windows 11 and Windows 10.

1. Right click on the compressed font file and select ‘remove all‘. If you’re using Winrar like me, ‘Extract Files‘.

2. Select the destination where you want your font folder to be. For simplicity’s sake, I’m using my Desktop. print Eject or OK Depends on whether you use windows extractor or Winrar.

3. Your desktop will now have a folder with the font name as the title. Double click to open.

Depending on which font you downloaded, you will now see single or multiple files. By looking at the names, you can see that these are various styles of the same font. If you only want one style, you can install it on your Windows 11 PC.

4. right click select the font file and choose one To organise or Install for all users. The second is installed for all user accounts on your PC.

The font installation will start and finish in just a few seconds and you’re done. You can choose to repeat the above steps to install all the different fonts on Windows 11.

Method 2: Install from Control Panel

If the first method is not for you, Control Panel is another way to install fonts in Windows 11. To do this, follow these steps:

one. windows start menu and write Control Board in the search bar. Click the result as it appears.

2. The Control Panel will give you a list of items to choose from. find and click Fonts from the list. However, if you have selected the category option, you can click to go. Appearance and Personalization > Fonts.

3. All pre-installed fonts in Windows 11 will now appear. This is where we will add our new font.

4. Open the folder of the previously downloaded font and select the font you want to install. Then simply drag and drop from that folder to the font grid you see above.

The font you choose will automatically load in seconds and you’re done.

Method 3: Use the Font Settings App

Definitely the laziest method for the Windows users among you, the Font Settings app is a modified version of the drag-and-drag app we used above. Users who want to install fonts on Windows 11 can also benefit from it. To do this, follow these steps:

one. windows start menu and write Font in the search bar. Click the result as it appears.

2. The following window will open showing the various fonts installed in Windows 11. You will also see a rectangular box titled ‘.Drag and drop to upload‘ that’s what we’re going to use.

3. Open the downloaded fonts folder and select the font you want to install. Then drag it from that folder into the drag and drop rectangular box you see.

The font will take a few seconds to load and you’re done! You can find the font in any text editor of your choice. Just search and start using.

How to Download Fonts

It’s no surprise that most online fonts are paid and require you to spend money to use them. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t good free fonts. If you don’t know where or how to find fonts to download for your Windows, use the steps below to do so. We will use Google Fonts for this as the website provides loads of free fonts.

1. With your browser open, visit: Google Fonts.

You will be greeted with an array of various free fonts. As you can see, the fonts are available in various styles and languages. You can even search for a specific font using the search bar above. I am also fond of Roboto and this is what I would choose as it is not on my system.

2. Click once on the font of your choice to open its page. You will be redirected to another page that will show you the font’s styles. You can enter your own sentence to see how it will look.

3. After making sure this is your font, Download Family button in the top right. This will download all the styles for that font.

4. Select the save path, and then Save. Your font is now downloaded.

You can choose to repeat the steps above and download as many fonts as you want.

Install and Use New Fonts in Windows 11 and Windows 10

Feel free to use any of the above methods to install your favorite fonts on Windows 11. Although these methods are detailed for Windows 11, they also work with Windows 10.
