How to Downgrade from iOS 15 Beta to iOS 14 (Guide)

Fascinated by the plethora of brand new features, you’ve downloaded the iOS 15 beta to your iPhone to use for a test drive of the pre-release software. However, days after installing the beta, you desperately want to upgrade from the iOS 15 beta to iOS 14 due to a series of unexpected problems and bugs that have proven to be nightmarish. Don’t worry, there is a pretty reliable way to downgrade from iOS 15 and revert back to iOS 14. And that’s what I’m going to guide you through in this post.

How to Downgrade from iOS 15 Beta to iOS 14 (2021)

Downgrading from an iOS beta software update to an older version of iOS is a tedious task. It also comes with some painful caveats to keep in mind before moving forward in the process. Moreover, this process will also work if you want to upgrade from iPadOS 15 beta to iPadOS 14. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at the steps.

Things to Keep in Mind Before Downgrading iOS Beta Software Update

  • Note that if you’ve already installed the watchOS 8 beta paired with your iPhone running iOS 15 beta on your Apple Watch, you won’t be able to use your smartwatch after the downgrade.
  • You cannot restore from a backup made in iOS 15 when reverting to iOS 14.
  • You can only restore from a previous iOS 14 backup. So make sure you have a backup of your device before installing the iOS 15 beta.
  • Downgrading from iOS 15 requires you to delete all existing data. So make sure you back up all your data beforehand.

Get your iPhone into Recovery Mode

Unfortunately, there is no single pass from a beta software update to an older version of iOS. So we will have to take the help of Recovery Mode to delete the iOS 15 beta software profile and downgrade it to the latest stable version of the software. Follow the steps below:

  1. First, you need to turn off your iPhone.
  • On iPhone and iPad without a home button: Press and hold the Side button and one of the volume buttons until Slide to Turn off appears. Then drag your finger on the slider to turn off your device.

  • On iPhone and iPad with home button: Press and hold the Side/Top button until Slide to Turn off appears. Then drag your finger on the slider to turn off your device.

2. Now connect your iOS device to your computer using a cable.

3. Next, it’s time to enter recovery mode.

  • iPhone 8 or later: Press and quickly release the volume up button. Press and quickly release the volume down button. After that, press and hold the Side button until you see the recovery mode screen.

  • iPad without home button: Press and quickly release the volume up button. Press and quickly release the volume down button. Press and hold the Top button until your device restarts. Keep holding the Top button until your device enters recovery mode.
  • iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the side and volume down buttons at the same time. Keep holding the buttons until the recovery mode screen appears.
  • iPad with Home button: Press and hold both the Home and Top buttons at the same time. Make sure to hold down the buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.

Downgrade your iPhone from iOS 15 beta to iOS 14

If Finder or iTunes doesn’t start automatically, make sure to open it manually. When iTunes detects your device in recovery mode, it will ask you what you want to do.

1. Now, “RepairPress the ” button in the pop-up window.

Click Restore

2nd place, “Restore and Update” to confirm your action.

3rd place, “Next” in iOS 14 Software Updater. After this, “To accept” To accept the Terms and Conditions and start downloading iOS 14.

note: If your iPhone or iPad restarts to iOS 14 before the download is complete, be sure to repeat the above steps and bring it back to Recovery Mode.

Restore Your Archived iOS 14 Backup to Your iPhone

After your device is restored, it will run the latest stable version of iOS 14. Restore the device from a previous backup to get your data back.

4. In iTunes or Finder, click “Restore BackupIt’s under the “General” section.

5. Next, select the archived backup you made before installing the iOS 15 beta software update. After the restore is complete, your iPhone should be back to where it was before installing the iOS beta update.
