Learn how to disable text message previews and popups on the Galaxy Note 7 with our guide below. New messages provide potentially private information in a popup, lock screen, and other areas. Here we will explain how to change these settings and how to keep prying eyes away from sensitive information.
Now that the flagship Galaxy Note 7 is back on the shelves and in the hands of millions of customers after a quick recall, the owner has many questions. Once owners have it set up and ready to use, they will want to change a lot of minor settings.
On the Note 7, the stock text messaging app gets a pop-up notification sharing a preview of the message on the notification bar row at the top of the screen and on the lock screen. This is fine for most, but some may want to hide it for privacy reasons. Lets start.
The new Note 7 is Samsung’s best phone to date. Remember aside that it has a beautiful award-winning display, IP68 dust and water resistance, and more. The camera is better, there’s double the storage at 64GB and an SD card, a USB Type-C fast charging port, and the entire device (including the S-Pen) works underwater.
It has a lot to offer, but at the same time, too many settings and features can be overwhelming. Not to mention that the Settings menu has been completely revamped, so finding important options can be difficult.
While most owners will download a different text messaging app, those using the stock “Messages” option will need to customize the settings to suit their needs. That said, here’s how to disable those text message previews and popups.
Disable Text Message Previews
The popup for incoming notifications is my favorite feature, but it’s not for everyone. It allows users to quickly respond to a text even while in another application. This popup shows who the message is from and a preview of the conversation. This is what we are trying to prevent and disable.
Something similar happens in the notification bar. A small icon with information about the message appears on its own. If you don’t want this information to go out and appear, it can all be turned off. The result is messages are hidden until you open the app and read it yourself.
to start lOpen the default “” app and press the more button on the top right or the 3 dots. Select Settings > notifications > and turn off “” and . Both of these show information you might not want. I’m keeping these open for convenience, but everyone is different.
If you like this feature and want to keep it, but hiding sensitive information is also doable. Keep the Pop-up Screen active but turn off the Preview. This way the notification will still appear, pop-ups will appear but the information will be kept private. It alerts you to a message and provides quick access to a secure mansion.
Disable Lock Screen Preview
To take all this a step further, we can also disable the lock screen popup previews. It’s nice to get a notification on the lock screen but some want to turn it off. Alternatively, some just want to hide the information but still get the lock screen prompt. So let’s do that too.
Go to settings by tapping the gear-shaped icon at the top of the notification bar or in the apps menu. Select “ and scroll down to ““. Now choose to hide all content or choose “icons only” to be notified anyway. Both options are available as shown below.
We’re all done and now the Note 7 is completely safe when it comes to text messages or notification previews on the lock screen. The second set of instructions blocks information from multiple apps, not just messages. Of course the best solution is to have a fingerprint or other security measure in place. I hope the above steps give Note 7 owners some peace of mind while using their device.
