iOS 9.1 update adds middle finger emoji to iPhone and iPad. This guide will show you how to disable middle finger emoji on iPhones and iPads running iOS 9.1.
The free iOS 9.1 update adds a middle finger emoji to the default iPhone emoji keyboard.
You can change the options to still use the emoji, but you will no longer see the middle finger emoji on your iPhone or iPad.
Unfortunately this does not remove the iPhone’s option to display the middle finger emoji. If someone sends it to you, it will still show up. The only way to avoid this is to stay on iOS 9.0.2 or lower for the foreseeable future.

It’s important to understand that Apple didn’t create the middle finger emoji, it only supports a standard that includes it. Just like the option to type profanity on your keyboard and have it appear on another keyboard, the middle finger emoji is built in for unicode support for new emojis.
This is what you need to do to disable middle finger emoji on your iPhone after upgrading to iOS 9.1.
How to Disable Middle Finger Emoji
Apple doesn’t allow users to remove an emoji from the keyboard or use an emoji as a shortcut that will allow the middle finger emoji to be automatically replaced with something else, so there are limited options.
First we need to delete the stock iPhone emoji keyboard. Next, we’ll add an alternative keyboard with emoji but no middle finger emoji.

Then top right. Next to the emoji keyboard.
This will remove the Emoji keyboard from your iPhone and the option to send middle finger emojis with it.
Now you can’t send middle finger emojis on iPhone, but you can’t send any emoji either.
We need to add a new keyboard to the iPhone. If you are going this route, we recommend using the following route. Swype or quick switch iPhone keyboards. They offer a complete iPhone keyboard replacement and include emoji.
Download Swype or SwiftKey from the App Store on your iPhone. After downloading you need to open the keyboard.

These iPhone emoji keyboards do not have middle finger emojis.
Now when you go to type something, you can tap the globe on your keyboard to switch to the other keyboard. On Swype, the Emoji keyboard long press the logo in the lower left. In Swiftkey, it’s the smiley next to the spacebar.
Currently, these iPhone keyboards do not have middle finger emojis. This is something they may add over time in which case you will have to look for another option or ignore it.
