This guide will explain a few simple and quick steps needed to disable or stop the LG G4 from automatically updating apps by itself. This is a setting in the Google Play Store and is something we get questions from all users when they buy a new Android smartphone.
When users buy the new LG G4 and have everything installed, they will have tons of apps that need to be updated right out of the box. We had over 30 apps that needed updating in our own unit. However, it will continue to receive updates after that, and most of the time users will want to disable their updates automatically.
If you do not want your device to update on its own or if you are not bothered by tons of notifications to update apps on your LG G4 almost every day, there are several easy ways to fix the problem. this Google Play store It has several settings that are extremely easy to change to control everything. This is very helpful for first time smartphone owners or beginners.
By default, the new LG G4 and most Android smartphones and tablets are set to update apps automatically. However, most people don’t want this or just want to update over Wi-Fi to save data and not exceed carrier data plans. Whether or not you do that is up to you, and here’s how.
Instructions
You won’t be fumbling with settings on the LG G4 to stop apps from updating on their own, instead inside the Google Play Store where you can find all your apps, games, music and more. Go to the Google Play Store by tapping the icon on your home screen or finding it in your app tray.
In the Google Play Store, users will need to tap the menu button next to “Play Store” at the top. Size rows is the menu button. This will get a settings menu drop down from the left and this is where you will go to the Play Store settings. Tap the slider, then select “” near the bottom from the list of options.
As shown above, this takes users to the general settings for the Google Play Store. At the top is the setting we are going to change. “” is the button we want to press. Users will then see a popup with three options. It’s probably set to automatically update apps, which is nice, but we’re stopping apps from updating on their own here.
Simply tap to select “”; you have to manually update future apps. But that means you’ll constantly get notifications that new apps need to be updated, and it won’t do it for you. I prefer to check which apps get updated and look at the change logs first, so this is the setting I use myself.
Alternatively, there is a setting to update apps anytime, even if you don’t have a wifi connection but are using mobile data. This is not recommended as the apps are large in size and users can review their monthly data plans extremely quickly. A good middle ground is set to update it only when on a WiFi connection, but this will allow apps to update automatically and users will have no control.
It’s also worth mentioning that in the same settings menu, you can uncheck the feature that automatically puts downloaded apps on your home screen. That’s fine, but if you download too many apps, you’ll quickly fill all those home screens with icons. Disable this so you can control what’s going on on the home screen.
You should do it?
Users new to Android may want to let the smartphone do everything for them and just keep it set to automatically update apps. I know my family always hates getting notifications for updates so they set it up automatically. Personally, I prefer to check for what updates and look at change logs and permission requests, so I do it all manually.
If you use auto-update, you won’t know what’s new because you didn’t read while updating the app. You will notice the changes in popular apps like Facebook, YouTube and more. The best example is Textra, my favorite text message replacement app. It recently received a major update that changed the look of many features. I chose not to update because I like everything as it is.
In the end it’s all about personal preference. How much time users want to spend fiddling with things and manually updating apps, or leave all the work to the phone for them. Choose what works best for you and change it as you see fit.
