Google’s AMP project (Accelerated Mobile Pages) has been a controversial topic since it was first introduced in 2014. Google wanted to optimize the web page so that it would load much faster on slower networks and low-end devices. In simple terms, AMP puts the website on the bare essentials to make the web page lighter. While the idea is great for regions where internet connectivity is an issue, forcing AMP to all users – no matter how fast internet you have – is downright infuriating. So, if you want to disable AMP links on your Android device, here is a simple guide for you. Just follow the instructions and disable Google AMP right away.
Turn Off AMP Links on Android (2020)
Here, we have mentioned two easy ways to block AMP pages on Android smartphones. You can switch to a new browser or change the search engine. For your convenience, you can easily jump to the steps by clicking the table of contents below.
Use Firefox or Kiwi Browser to Disable AMP Links on Android
1. If you are using Chrome, you need to switch to Firefox (Free) to disable AMP links on Android. No need to install any plugins or change any setting. Firefox disables all AMP links locally and redirects to the original page. Also, Firefox Focus (Free) also disables AMP locally.
2. Apart from that you can use Kiwi browser (Free) to disable AMP links on Android. It is an open source browser built using the same Chromium base but has the option to disable AMP. Just open the 3-dot menu and open Settings. Here, open “Privacy“.
3. “remove AMPThe ” option is right there. Activate the checkbox and you’re done. AMP links will now redirect you to the original web page. By the way, you can also install Chrome extensions on Android using Kiwi.
Change Search Engine to DuckDuckGo
1. If you don’t want to switch from Chrome to other alternatives and still want AMP disabled, then the easy solution is to change the search engine to DuckDuckGo. DuckDuckGo disables AMP links by default, but you will have to put up with limited search results. To change the search engine, open the 3-dot menu and go to “Settings”. Now, open “Search Engine”.
2. Select “DuckDuckGo” here, that’s it. Now you can go ahead and search the web. Won’t scan AMP links.
