Recently, privacy has become a growing and top priority for many smartphone users, especially when we use our devices for anything. Devices like the Galaxy S6 are pretty secure with a built-in fingerprint scanner for a lock screen, but that’s not always enough. Privacy should always be paramount, and browser history or form data is one of the many things you need to know. There are many different reasons why a user might want to delete their internet browser or search history on a smartphone and we are sure you have reasons so here we will explain how to do it on the new Galaxy S6.
As for removing your browser history on Android, here are a few different scenarios. It is a big factor that there are multiple different 3rd party browsers for Android and they all have slightly different settings. Samsung’s Galaxy S6 (or all Galaxy devices) has its own browser called “Internet” and that’s where we’ll focus today, besides Google Chrome of course.
If you are logged into your Google account, which we assume you are using Android, every website you visit or search will be recorded and remembered. This is as long as you don’t completely turn off your history or use an incognito tab or incognito browser, which we’ll talk about again below.
Removing your browser history and search history are two different things, but below we will explain how to clear browser history on Samsung Galaxy S6. This could be because your kids or significant other can’t see what you bought for their birthday, general privacy concerns, or other reasons we won’t go into, here’s how to do it.
Instructions
As we mentioned above, Google Play Store has multiple options and 3rd party browsers ready to be used by users and manufacturers. Google Chrome is the most popular these days and on most devices, as we will talk about below, but many Galaxy S6 owners probably use the built-in browser called “Internet”. Here we will start.
When using the “Internet” app on the Galaxy S6 with a web browser, tap the new “” menu button near the top right of the screen. This brings up the drop-down menu where you scroll down and select “S”, then simply scroll to “” and select it.
After entering the privacy settings menu, you will see several options to customize user privacy on the device. One popular one is whether the device remembers form data. Like your user account login and password. They tagged it as “save login info”. I keep this turned on so I don’t have to retype passwords but I also have a lock screen security measure. This can be dangerous, as with banking sites, so use with caution.
The last option is the one you will want to select, shown below and listed under “”.
From here, simply select the “” item, which will take you to the full list of web browser history options. In this popup, you can clear all your browser history, cache, cookies and site data, and even your autofill and password information. Autofill is useful because it remembers email and login information, so don’t delete it unless you absolutely have to.
Most users will be fine by selecting the first three options shown above, then actually removing all of your information by hitting the ok button. The process takes a few seconds to more than a minute, depending on how much you surf the web or how often the user deletes their tracks. Google Chrome
Many Samsung smartphone owners actually use Google Chrome versus the built-in browser, so we’ll explain it as well. The process on the Galaxy S6 for Google Chrome is basically the same, just labeled slightly differently. Press the same menu button from above (three dots) and select “”, then tap the “” button at the bottom.
You will get a similar checkbox option as shown above and you can control what you delete forever and what stays. The only benefit of Chrome is that you can remove individual site visits instead of all or nothing, so it doesn’t look like you’re hiding your tracks. Simply press x to delete each call you want removed and you’re done.
Incognito Mode
You can use something called Incognito Mode to prevent all this from being an issue at startup. While in the Galaxy S6 browser, go to the menu and enable Incognito Mode. This ensures that the browser does not remember or save any history, passwords, logins or tracking what you are doing. This is your best bet and is something many users should consider.
There are multiple browsers in the Google Play Store that do this by default and will never, ever remember your data. Dolphin Zero it’s a good one, and even the less popular Opera Browser has a browser-wide privacy mode you can enable. I’d stick with the stock browser or Chrome, but everyone likes something different and Android has a lot to choose from.
