Ever since Apple released the Late 2016 MacBook lineup, it seems like everyone has been talking about the Touch Bar. usefulness or lack thereof. Personally, I think it’s really cool and will get even better. One of the things Apple mentioned in its keynote was that the Touch Bar can also be easily customized to customize the toolbar in any Apple app on their Mac. So if you have the brand new MacBook Pro 2016 with Touch Bar and If you want to customize the Touch Bar tools, you can do it like this:
Customizing the Touch Bar
Customizing the Touch Bar is actually pretty easy, and I’m glad about it. I prefer Spotlight to be where Siri is because I don’t use Siri at all, and the customization options offer a lot more flexibility to use the Touch Bar however you want. To customize the Touch Bar, simply follow the steps below:
note: I don’t have a MacBook Pro 2016 with Touch Bar so I use the trick to get Touch Bar on any Mac and I’ll show you how to customize it. The process is exactly the same for the real Touch Bar, so you won’t find any differences there.
1. Go System Preferences Click on your Mac and Keyboard.
2. Click on the button that says here “Customize Control Strip“.
3. You will then be shown a screen with all the Touch Bar buttons you can use. simply drag the ones you want to the bottom of your Mac’s screenand they land on your Touch Bar.
4. If you customize your Touch Bar and then decide you want the default, that’s easy too. Simply drag and drop”Default Setting” on your Touch Bar.
When you’re done, “CompletedClick the ” button and your Touch Bar will be updated to display the new buttons you put there. The Touch Bar is easy to customize, and you can keep tweaking it until you find the set of buttons that just work for you.
Bonus: Take Screenshots of the Touch Bar
Although the Touch Bar is actually a screen, it is not on your screen. Therefore, your generic screenshot shortcuts won’t work. For example, you can’t press command + space + 3 to make the Touch Bar appear in the screenshot. If you want to take screenshots of your Touch Bar, you can use the new shortcuts that Apple has implemented specifically for this purpose.
- To take a screenshot of the Touch Bar and save it as an image file, simply press the “ button.command + shift + 6“.
- If you want to copy the screenshot to the clipboard, you can press the “ button.control + command + shift + 6Paste the screenshot wherever you want.
Here are the ways to take screenshots of the Touch Bar on your Mac. Unfortunately, there’s no way to take screenshots of specific areas in the Touch Bar, so just crop the screenshot if that’s what you want to do.
