While full customization on macOS is a few years away, Apple finally seems more willing than ever to move in that direction. And what better way to appreciate macOS 11 than to take a look at Safari and give the stock web browser a cool personal touch? For starters, you can customize the Safari start page in macOS Big Sur as you wish.
You can set a beautiful wallpaper for the Safari start page, remove favorites, and keep privacy reports out of sight, based on what suits your taste better. What’s more, you have the freedom to get rid of Siri Suggestions if you find them annoying. Long story short, you have more control over Safari’s Home screen and you can choose to sync it perfectly with your priority.

Customize Safari Start Page in macOS Big Sur

Remove Clutter from Safari Start Page
- Start Safari On your Mac running macOS Big Sur.
2. Now, click on menu button (three horizontal lines) in the lower right corner.
3. Next, uncheck the box It’s to the left of each item you don’t want to see on your Safari start page. For example, you can hide/remove many things like favorites, frequently visited sites, Siri Suggestions, Privacy Reports, Reading List and background image.
If you want to get them back, all you have to do is come back here and check the box for each item you want to see on the Safari home screen.
Removing Certain Items from the Safari Start Page
If you no longer want to see certain items, such as a bookmark, reading list, or a particular Safari Suggestion, you can choose to remove them from the web browser’s home screen.
Delete a Specific Favorite Bookmark
If the bookmark you want to delete is not visible on the home screen, mouse over the Favorites section and Show more. Now, right-click on the item in question and To delete in the popup window.
Remove a Specific Frequently Visited Website
If you don’t want to show a particular website you visit frequently on Safari’s homepage, you can easily hide it. simply right click on the website and select Delete in the popup window. After that, this website will no longer appear in the favorites section.
Remove a Specific Siri Suggestion
Find the Siri Suggestion you want to get rid of in the Siri Suggestions section. Next, right-click on a specific recommendation and Recommend this website in the popup window.
Removing a Specific Reading List
You should see all your reading list items under the Reading List section at the bottom of the screen. Right-click on a specific item and remove item in the popup window.
Set Custom Wallpaper for Safari Start Page
This nifty little feature is one of my top picks for Safari on macOS Big Sur. And I’m sure many Mac users will love it too. If you are one of them, set a beautiful photo as background image for Safari.
- On the Safari home page, click . menu button in the lower right corner of the screen.
