This quick guide will show users how to change or customize the on-screen buttons near the bottom of the LG G4 screen. Most phones tend to have a standard back, home and recent apps buttons at the bottom of the screen, but with the LG G4 you can fully customize them, rearrange button icons and even add more options.
Like last year’s LG G3, the new LG G4 is highly customizable in many ways. Not only can users change the buttons on the screen, but the layout can be changed if users want the left or right back button, and even the button color and background colors can all be changed to suit any user’s wishes and needs.

Most smartphones have dedicated capacitive touch (illuminated) buttons like the Galaxy S6 or non-replaceable softkeys like the Nexus 5 or Moto X. However, LG wants to let users change things as they see fit. and fortunately the softkeys are fully customizable.
LG’s G4 originally comes with three buttons at the bottom of the screen. These are the back, home, and multitasking recent apps button from left to right. However, if you’re coming from a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, the back button was on the right instead. This makes things confusing when owners often hit the wrong thing, have to relearn where to touch and take some getting used to. Fortunately for us, this is not a problem because we can slide the LG G4 back button to the right, just like on Samsung smartphones. Lets start.
Instructions
The LG G4 screen buttons are actually extremely easy to customize, and it only takes a few taps and swiping the icons where their owners want them.
To get started, pull down the notification bar and tap the gear-shaped settings button at the top right, or open the app tray and find the settings icon. Once in the settings go to the “” column and tap on the 3rd option which is ““.
From here, you will see an area to completely arrange the home touch buttons, also known as navigation keys or buttons. The first option is the “button combination” as shown below, which is what we will be doing here today. It’s worth noting that owners can choose a “color” and choose between a white or black background for their home button.
Then tap “Button combination” and follow the on-screen instructions. It seems confusing, but all owners have to do is press and drag any icon they want from the list to the sample image of a phone, and you’ve successfully added a new button to the softkeys. For those from a Samsung device, drag the back button to the right, make sure the circle (home button) stays in the middle, and there’s even a downward-facing arrow that pulls the notification bar down.
That’s all and now you have successfully replaced LG G4 screen buttons as you wish. My favorite is the down arrow for notifications, which lets you easily tap a button to pull down the notification bar shade, rather than extending it all the way to the top of the big 5.5-inch screen to see your notifications. This is extremely useful and something we want all manufacturers to offer.
Users don’t need to hit the “done” or “accept” button to apply the changes, just tap the home button and that’s it. Now enjoy the new layout, different color, additional buttons or go back and change everything to the original layout if you want. It’s all about user preference.
