During the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus launch event last year, Apple also introduced its first true wireless earbuds called AirPods. In addition to offering slightly better sound quality than Apple’s wired EarPods that come with iPhones, it also provides some smart functions, such as automatically pausing music and “double-tapping” Siri when one of the AirPods is removed. This was made possible thanks to the company’s specially designed W1 Chip that powers these headphones. However, with the latest iOS 11 update, you have a lot more control over your AirPods than double-tapping the Siri function. This includes customizing controls for each AirPod individually. For example, users can now play/pause, next track, previous track, etc. for each AirPod individually. can assign functions. If you already want to try this with your AirPods, let’s take a look at how to customize AirPods functions in iOS 11:
Customizing AirPods Functions in iOS 11

First of all, you need to make sure your AirPods are connected to your iPhone before proceeding with customizing the controls. The procedure is far from complicated, so to do it without any hassle, simply follow these steps:
- go Settings on your iPhone and tap on “Bluetooth” To go to the Bluetooth device settings. Now, just tap on information icon for connected AirPods indicated by “I” As shown below.
- In the next menu, you will see the option to customize functions for both left and right AirPods. To customize the function for the left AirPod, tap on it. “Left” and choose the function according to your preference. You can choose between Siri, Play/Pause, Next Track, and Previous Track.
- Similarly, to customize the function for the right AirPod, tap on it. “TRUE” and choose according to your preference. Personally, I prefer to use the Next Track function on my right AirPod and the Previous Track function on my left AirPod.

That’s all you need to customize the function for each AirPod individually. We’re glad that Apple has finally decided to give users more control over their AirPods with the latest iOS 11 update. Until now, users had to use Siri to perform most functions. While this was easy, trying to talk to your voice assistant in public was rather awkward. With the iOS 11 update, you no longer need Siri because you can double-tap your right or left AirPod to perform certain functions like Play/Pause, Next track and Previous track.
