After being officially introduced in 2015, Apple Music has become one of the most popular music streaming services right now, competing with competitors like Spotify and Google Play Music. The Cupertino-based company recently confirmed that Apple Music has passed the milestone of 30 million subscribers, half the number of paid subscribers Spotify has. With the latest iOS 11 software update, Apple has added social networking features to music streaming services, helping you share your playlists with friends who use Apple Music and discover the music and artists you listen to. Apple doesn’t really have a specific name for this feature, but the company describes it as a way to discover new music with your friends. Note: I tried this on my iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 6s, but it should work on the new iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X as well as older iPhones.

As long as you have a paid Apple Music subscription or are in a three-month free trial, you will be able to take advantage of this new social network-like feature. The procedure is quite simple and you can have your Apple Music profile ready in a few minutes. So, to handle this without any hassle, simply follow these steps:

  • Hungry Music app on your iOS device “For you” episode. Now, tap on “Profile” icon in the upper right corner of the screen to go to the Account section. When done, tap on “Start Sharing With Your Friends”.

  • The next menu will show a brief description of this new feature. Just tap on “To start” to start creating your own Apple Music profile right away. You will now be prompted to enter your name and choose a unique username For your Apple Music profile. Here you can also add your own Profile picture. When done, tap on “Next” to go to the next step

  • You can now customize the privacy of your Apple Music account. You can decide who can follow you and see your shared playlists and listening activity. If you want to keep your profile more private, you can set it to “People You Approve”. Going to the next step will display all of your playlists that you can choose to show in your Apple Music profile.

  • Once in the next menu you will have the option to find and follow your friends on Apple Music. You can even find more friends from popular social networking platforms like Facebook and Instagram. The next step is the final step where you can decide to enable/disable notifications when there is an activity from friends or artists you are interested in.

That’s pretty much all you need to do to get your Apple Music profile up and running. Your friends will now be able to follow you and discover new music by listening to the playlists and artists you share on the platform. However, if you want to change your account settings or adjust privacy at any time, you can do so by tapping on it. “To organise”.
