The world is full of Bluetooth accessories, products such as headphones, speakers, keyboards and mice. Here’s how to connect them to your iPhone 6.
Bluetooth is one of the most popular forms of wireless communication, and many users prefer Bluetooth peripherals over RF wireless as they don’t have a receiver dongle to deal with; they just connect a Bluetooth accessory to their device and go.
But Bluetooth is a bit of a scary world for the uninitiated. Connecting and pairing Bluetooth devices to your computer, iPhone or iPad can be a confusing endeavor, but once you know how it works and the steps required to pair a Bluetooth device, it’s easy to set sail. In this guide, I will show you how to connect a Bluetooth accessory to your iPhone 6.
Turning On iPhone 6 Bluetooth
There are two ways to turn Bluetooth on and off on your iPhone 6. The easiest way is to swipe up from the bottom of the screen to bring up the Control Center and then tap the Bluetooth icon to turn it on or off. But this only turns it on and off and cannot be used to set up a Bluetooth accessory. Instead, you’ll want to go into settings.
To access the Bluetooth menu on your iPhone 6, open the app and tap on it. Then tap the toggle switch on the right to turn it on if it isn’t already. This area will also be where you set up your Bluetooth accessories to work with your iPhone 6.
Setting Up Bluetooth Accessories
Connecting your Bluetooth accessories to your iPhone 6 is called “pairing”, so every time you see this word, it means connecting any Bluetooth accessory to your phone or tablet, such as headphones or speakers.
To pair a Bluetooth peripheral with your iPhone 6, open the app and tap on it. Doing so will automatically make your device “discoverable” meaning your iPhone 6 will be able to find any Bluetooth accessory looking for a device that is currently in range.
However, simply turning on your Bluetooth accessory is not enough to pair it with your iPhone 6. You need to put the accessory in what is called “pairing mode”. This will allow it to connect to your iPhone.
Every Bluetooth product is different, but most require you to hold down the power button long enough for the lights to start flashing. This means it is in pairing mode. If you cannot operate it yourself, refer to the accessory’s manual for specific steps on how to put the accessory in pairing mode.
While in pairing mode, you should see your iPhone appear next to the accessory. Simply tap on that accessory in the list; The two devices will start pairing with each other.
Some Bluetooth accessories require a PIN to connect to your iPhone. You can find it in the Bluetooth accessory’s manual, but it’s usually an easy PIN like 0000 or 1234. Once you enter this, the two devices will pair successfully and you can start using them immediately.
After that, you can turn Bluetooth on or off when not in use to save battery. Doing so will not delete any registered Bluetooth devices you have paired with your iPhone 6.
