In this guide, we will show you how to completely disable Bixby on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 8. We will help you disable the Bixby button, get rid of the Bixby sound and remove it from your home screen. Bixby is Samsung’s virtual assistant similar to Siri, Alexa or Google Assistant. And while it’s pretty handy, some will want to turn it off.
While Bixby has a lot to offer, the dedicated button on the side of the phone gets bumped on the way and by accident. The other problem is that we can’t reconfigure this button to do something else like turn on the camera. So, follow our instructions or video below to get rid of Bixby completely. We’ve also updated this guide for those running Android 9 Pie (One UI).
How to Disable Bixby Key
To prevent Bixby from opening automatically every time you accidentally press the button, follow the steps below.
Note that the button still works when you do this, but you must have the key to open Bixby. This means accidental touches won’t do anything, but you won’t lose functionality either.
But if you want to get rid of Bixby completely, you should also disable Bixby Voice.
How to Disable Bixby Voice
While in the Bixby settings menu, press the back key and swipe up near the top. Instead of disabling the switch, uncheck Bixby Voice as you can see in the screenshot above.
Once you disable both Bixby Voice and the button on the side of the phone, you’re almost done. Note that even if you hold the button down, the button does absolutely nothing anymore. You’ve successfully completely killed the annoying and mostly useless Bixby.
Disable Bixby Home and Other Details
However, Bixby is still all over your home screen, but we can also get rid of it, which is the final step. Swipe all the way to the left and you’ll be greeted with a Bixby landing page full of information.
Press and hold any empty space on your home screen. The screen will zoom out to an edit mode where you can change wallpapers and the like. Swipe far left until you land on Bixby. Now disable Bixby using the slider at the top of the screen. Hit the home button and we’re done. You have now successfully killed Bixby on Galaxy S9.
How to Disable Bixby 2.0 (Single UI) on Android 9 Pie
A Galaxy S9, Note 9, etc. with the new One UI Android 9 Pie update. you have Bixby 2.0 software. This is a new and improved Bixby, but still not worth using. Plus, the steps to disable Bixby have changed again and we can no longer disable the button completely. We still protect you.

How to Disable Bixby 2.0
You will notice that the button to do nothing option has disappeared and now the only option is “Double-press to open Bixby”. This prevents accidental taps, but we can no longer completely disable Bixby. Still, it’s better than nothing, so go ahead and change it with a double tap.
If that’s not good enough, you can still use 3rd party software for hacking and disabling the button, but they are not an ideal solution. Either way, this guide should ease some of the frustrations with Bixby.
If at any point you want to bring back Samsung’s virtual assistant, simply follow these steps in reverse. Long press the button or long press the screen and enable Bixby Home, then open the app and turn the button back on. While you’re here, take a look at these best Galaxy S9 screen protectors.
