Figuring out how to close iPhone apps can be a little tricky, especially since Apple changed the way the task manager works in iOS 9.
Here’s how to turn off or turn off apps on iPhone. This works the same with iOS 9 on iPad and iPod touch.
If you’re a new Android user to iOS, you may find Apple’s task manager built into the iPhone somewhat familiar. The new multitasking screen in iOS 9 looks more like that found in recent versions of Android than in previous versions of iOS.
Double click the home button and you will find your current screen slides on the right and all of your latest apps are airing in front of you. To switch between your various apps, simply scroll through the various screens until you reach the one you like and tap where it will magnify to fill the screen.
If you find that you want to close an application, scroll and pause until you see the application you want to close. Don’t touch it.
When you’re ready to close the app, drag it to the top of the screen, where it will disappear – your iPhone exits the app completely.
Often times, when you exit an app by pressing the home button, it goes to sleep in the background, but does not fully exit. At a standstill like this, it might not be using your screen, but downloading data or streaming audio or video in the background – consuming precious megabytes and battery life.
Apple wants to emphasize that users don’t need to actively close their apps – iOS can handle it for them. To a large extent, this is true. However, sometimes apps can misbehave and the only way to regain control is to exit the app by closing the app from the multitasking screen.
If you’ve recently upgraded to a new iPhone that supports Apple’s depth-sensing 3D Touch technology, you can access the iOS app switcher another way. Instead of double-clicking the home button, tap the left edge of the 3D Screen and swipe right. You will enter the task switcher and from here you can switch between the applications you want or close the applications you want.
