If you recently upgraded from an older iPhone to an iPhone iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max You may not know how to close open apps on your iPhone.
If you’ve owned an iPhone 8, iPhone 7, iPhone SE or earlier, you’re used to closing your apps with the physical home button.
The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max do not have a physical home button; this means you have to use screen gestures to close apps running on your device. While this process may seem a bit strange at first, it should start to feel normal after a few days.
If you’re having trouble closing your apps or just need a reminder, this guide will show you how to properly close your apps on an iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max.
How to Close Apps on iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max
If you want to turn off apps running on your iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max, you need to open App Switcher on your phone. Here’s how you can open App Switcher:
- While on your iPhone’s home screen or in an app, swipe up from the bottom of your device’s screen and hold for one second. Release App Switcher and when you see your app cards.
- Once in the App Switcher, you can navigate between the apps open on your phone by swiping left and right.
- If you want to close an app, swipe up from the bottom of the app card.
Closing your apps probably won’t improve your iPhone XS’s battery life, but it can improve your device’s performance, especially if Background Refresh is enabled.
If Background Refresh is enabled, your apps will run in the background and if you don’t pay attention to it, it can have a negative impact on your iPhone’s performance.
