Private Browsing

This is a good place to start when it comes to clearing history, as the iOS mode in Safari is designed not to track any history.

By opening a new browser window and Safari, and then tapping the windows icon, you will see the text with the Private label appear at the bottom.

Tapping this Custom icon will open a new browser window in Safari, but instead of the traditional white. This is a visual indicator that iPhone is browsing and will monitor your activity.

This is a great way to save yourself the hassle of clearing any browser data if you need to do a quick search without tracking your usage.

Clear Individual Sites

In Safari’s history tab (Bookmarks -> ), you will see all your recently viewed links. It has the ability to remove and remove individual websites.

Many people may not want to delete their entire recent history just because they might be logged into a site or do a new search they need later, so this is an excellent way to eliminate minor bouts of activity by gradually deleting them.

Clear Full History

In the same Safari History tab, you will also see an icon at the bottom. This will do as it claims and clear all your items currently appearing in History.

Clear History and Website Data

One final way to clear your tracks in Safari is to go to the Settings App and then the Safari tab.

Scrolling to the bottom of this tab will display blue text that states and

Tapping this will warn “Clear will remove history, cookies and other browsing data. History will be deleted from Devices signed in to your iCloud account.” This last part not only deletes browsing data from your current device, but also deletes .

Delete everything

If you don’t have the Safari tab enabled in iCloud, you won’t get this warning but most people will have it enabled except to see Deleted History and browsing data from your Mac and iPad as well.

There are many reasons why clearing data is necessary, and thankfully Apple has made it pretty simple. My personal advice would be to avoid further maintenance to delete unwanted browsing data. There are options to delete where you are yet Private Browsing is a great bug-free scanning tool.
