How to Clear Cache on iPad
If you’re using Apple’s Safari browser on your iPad, you’ll want to get rid of cookies and other data stored on your tablet.
If you’re using Safari on other Apple devices, this will also clear data on those signed in to the same iCloud account.
- Go to your Settings app on your iPad.
- Scroll down to Safari.
- Go to Privacy & Security and tap on Clear history and Website data.
- A window will open and you will want to tap on Clear History and Data.
As the company states, this will remove your browsing history, cookies, and other browsing data. It will not clear the AutoFill information.
If you don’t use Safari regularly, you probably won’t have a lot of data to clear. If that’s the case, you’ll want to take a look at your third-party apps.
This process will be slightly different for each application. For example, if you’re using Slack, you’ll need to go to the app’s settings via the Settings app and turn on Reset Cache on Next Startup.
If you usually use Google’s Chrome browser, you need to go to the app itself and tap the three horizontal circles in the lower right corner.
Once there, tap Settings, tap Privacy and tap Clear Browsing Data. You can now choose the ones you want to delete. If you’re noticing heavy lag on your iPad, you might want to delete everything.
Unfortunately, some apps do not provide you with a clear way to clear their cache. If that becomes a roadblock, we suggest you take a look at your iPad’s storage.
- Go to the Settings app.
- Go to General.
- Tap iPad Storage.
Here you’ll find an overview of your apps and how much space they’re saving on your iPad. If you scroll down, you can see which apps are taking up the most space in your device’s internal storage.
If you tap on an app, iPadOS will give you an information and some options to help you better manage your iPad’s storage. Some of you may find that an app you rarely use is taking up too much space. Others may find that an app is taking up more space than preferred.
In some apps you will see two options: Empty App and Delete App. If you download an app, it will be removed from your iPad, but you will keep all your data, which is useful if you intend to use the app in the future. When you reinstall the app, all your data will be restored.
If you delete an app from your iPad, the data is deleted with it. If you never use an app and it’s taking up too much storage, consider deleting it.
If you don’t want to manage all this manually, you can tell iPadOS to Automatically Offload Unused apps:
- go to settings
- Go to General
- Tap iPad Storage
- On this screen, you should see a blue Show All icon on the right. Tap.
- On the next screen, you’ll want to tap the blue Enable button next to Offload Unused Apps.
iPadOS only dumps apps if you’re in danger of running out of storage.
