How to Clear Browsing History with Keyboard Shortcuts in Chrome, Firefox, Edge

Browsing history in all modern web browsers can be cleared by going into settings, but did you know that you can quickly and efficiently clear browsing data in your browser using a simple keyboard shortcut? If not, you’ve come to the right place. Because today we will show you how to clear browsing history with keyboard shortcuts in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Opera.

The method we’ll describe below works in almost all modern web browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Opera. It also works in many other Chromium-based browsers and Firefox derivatives. So, without further ado, let’s see how you can clear your browser’s browsing history with a simple keyboard shortcut.

Note: For today’s demo, we’re using Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox on Windows 10, but you can also clear the browsing history of all major browsers with keyboard shortcuts on Linux, Mac, and Chromebooks by following our guide below.

1. First open the browser where you want to delete your browsing history. Now, depending on your device, you will have to use a three-key shortcut. But the shortcut will be the same for all major browsers.

  • Windows and Linux: Press the Ctrl+Shift+Del keys simultaneously.
  • Match: Press Command+Shift+Delete ( Backspace key is labeled ‘Delete’ on Macs and deletes characters to the left of the cursor).
  • Chromebook: Press Ctrl+Shift+Backspace.

2. You will see a pop-up window similar to the one below in Chrome. From the drop-down menu, you can select the ones you want to delete by ticking the relevant boxes and time range. Finally, click/tap the ‘Clear Data’ button at the bottom.

In Firefox, you’ll see a popup that looks like the one below. As with Chrome, you can also choose what to delete and for what time period.

Although the pop-ups may look slightly different, the process is almost the same across all platforms. In any case, you will have the option to choose what to delete and you will have to click/tap the ‘Clear Data’ or similar button.
