From time to time, Xbox Live crashes, making you wonder if something is wrong with your internet connection or even your Xbox One. Here’s how to check if Xbox Live is on Xbox One.
At first glance, the Xbox One looks like just a machine. Its glossy and matte black exterior gives it the appearance of a giant piece of precision equipment. It doesn’t hurt that it’s powerful enough for full high definition gaming without hiccups, either. There is another important component in Xbox One that users don’t necessarily think about. No, not the Kinect 2 and its many sensors and lenses. Xbox Live, the cloud service that powers almost everything that happens on Xbox One, including gaming and watching videos.
First you need to turn on the Xbox One itself by pressing the Xbox logo on the front of your console or the Xbox logo on your Xbox One controller.
Welcome to the Xbox One Home Screen. Select the area by moving the selector over it and pressing the A button on your remote. If you prefer to use your Kinect 2 sensor, you can also hold it in your left or right hand. Move your hand over the My Games & Apps tile and move your hand forward slightly to select it as if you were pressing a button on the dashboard.
Now use the left stick on the controller and select it on the right side of your screen. Then select it with the A button on your remote. You can also use the Kinect 2 sensor to select the apps menu. Just raise one hand, hover over the word Applications, and move your hand forward slightly to select it.
Now go to the list of installed apps on the side of your screen and find the App. Turn it on by pressing the A button on your controller. If you are still using Kinect 2 gestures, raise your right hand until you see a hand icon on the screen. Next, hover over the list of installed apps and snap your fingers to make a fist.
Now move that closed fist to the left to scroll through the list of installed apps until you see it. Select by hovering your hand over it and moving your hand slightly towards your TV.
Choose .
Select to see if your console is having trouble connecting to Xbox Live. You can also select Test Network Connection to make sure there is no problem with your internet connection.
Xbox Live powers everything that communicates with your console, and even some obvious things you might not notice. When you’re playing a game online, it’s actually Xbox Live that goes out and finds users for you to play with. That’s why you find that you can’t do much with your Xbox One console when it’s not working.
If there are any issues with Xbox Live itself, you will see them listed below. For example, there is an issue affecting content purchases today.
If you find that you can play single player mode in video games, but not with other users other than your internet connection or Xbox Live that is having issues. Sometimes individual apps like PBS or OneDrive also stop working. These are not necessarily connected to Xbox Live, but if they are not working, it could be indicative of a problem with the Xbox Live service as a whole. Check if your internet connection is working on another device such as a laptop or tablet. If so, you’ll want to go to the Network screen.
Usually, Microsoft fixes problems with Xbox Live pretty quickly. Sometimes a few minutes, sometimes three or four hours. If your Xbox One hasn’t been able to connect to Xbox Live for a while and you’re sure this isn’t an issue for you, go to: Support.Xbox.com for the latest details.
In addition to showing you problems with Xbox Live, the Xbox Support website also resolves issues affecting certain apps. For example, there is an issue with the PBS app for Xbox One today.
Matchmaking, the service that matches you with other players, is included in the Xbox Live Core Services checkbox. Presumably, Core Servers also include Xbox Live sign-ins, though Xbox.com doesn’t make that clear. It’s also unclear whether the save and sync to the cloud is part of the Xbox Live Core Services or the Social and Gaming services. However, if you see a red exclamation mark on any of them, it’s probably related to the Xbox Live issue you’re having.
Note that an Xbox Live Gold subscription is required to play video games with other Xbox One users. If you can’t access multiplayer in your games, it’s worth checking to see if you really have an Xbox Live Gold subscription. You can sign up for the service from the Xbox One home screen or online.
