The default wallpaper or background image on your Android smartphone or tablet is probably pretty good, and most manufacturers are releasing devices with a good selection of different wallpapers. However, if you want to change your home screen wallpaper to something more attractive and suit your taste, here is how to change wallpaper on Android.
Devices like Galaxy S5 or Nexus 6 have big full HD screens and not to mention the wide variety of Live Wallpapers available for Android users, they have the ability to display some beautiful images, neat photos of your friends and family.
The first thing you see whenever you use and enjoy your Android phone or tablet is the lock or home screen, so the setting is naturally fully customizable even if you don’t notice it right away. Below is a quick tutorial for beginners that explains how to easily change wallpaper (and find good wallpapers) on Android.
We know this is a pretty common feature that many smartphone owners do on a weekly basis or quite often, but not everyone is familiar with Android or how Android software works. As a result, beginners or first-time smartphone owners who want to replace the wallpaper with a picture of their child or a beautiful beach will want to read the quick instructions.
Part of the excitement of getting a new phone is setting it up the way you want it, even if it’s a little daunting for beginners. All in all, the following easy-to-understand steps will enable you to find and replace that wallpaper on Android right away.
Instructions
Here we are using Nexus 6 with stock Android 5.0.1 Lollipop but the steps are generally the same for all Android devices. Tap and hold anywhere on your home screen that doesn’t have an app or weather widget; the screen will zoom out into a customization mode. From here you can rearrange the icons, change which screen is the home screen when you press the home button, but you can also change your wallpaper.
Press and hold as outlined above, then select “Wallpapers” in the bottom left. Tap this and you will have the option to change the home screen, lock screen or both for Samsung devices or just the home screen wallpaper for most other Android devices. I like to mix it up, but to each his own. Mine changes every few weeks, but I keep coming back to my Packers HD wallpaper.
As you can see above, we long pressed the home screen, selected the wallpapers and now we are in the selection area in the image below. From here you can choose one of the pre-loaded wallpaper options or choose an image from your device. This will take you to the gallery where you can select a picture you took of your kids or animals, or to the downloads folder where you save HD wallpapers from popular apps like: Zedge. I have many different images especially for backgrounds.
The Google Play Store has tons of different apps that users can download if they want to find custom wallpapers or even live wallpapers that move with the screen. Zedge is one of the most popular apps for your smartphone, packed with beautiful wallpapers, ringtones and tons of other customizations. It has been used for years and has one of the biggest and best selections to choose from.
Premium Wallpapers HD This is another great option, especially considering that most Android phones these days have a full 1080p HD display or even a 2k display like the LG G3, Note 4 or Nexus 6.
I tend to use my own images or wallpapers from a folder I’ve collected over the years, but if you’re new to Android or a smartphone, these are a few good places to start. Enjoy!
