How To Change The Galaxy Note 8 Text Message App

In this guide, we will explain how to change the Galaxy Note 8 text messaging app. Samsung’s built-in Messages app is nice, but there are dozens of alternatives on the Play Store that offer even more. Whether you don’t like it or you want something else, that’s how it is.

Third-party text apps usually have more options and features. Some of these include themes, customizable notification bubbles or fonts, or are easier to use.

There are a few we recommend in our link above. The instructions below explain how to change the app to something else without getting the duplicate text message notifications.

Samsung users will feel right at home with the pre-installed “Messages” app. Although Samsung has added many new features over the years, it is still not as good as the current ones.

How to Change Galaxy Note 8 Text App

The first step is to download a new text messaging program from the Google Play Store. Simply search for an SMS or text message and Google lists them all. Textra is my favourite, although Chomp or GoSMS are two other popular options. Here are the full instructions.

Once installed you can open the new app and see everything it has to offer. However, you need to follow the other steps above to set it as the primary messaging app. Now, you have successfully replaced Note 8 text messaging app.

More information

Remember the last three steps as they are very important. Older Android devices received double notifications if you downloaded a second text messaging app. This is no longer the case. Android does not allow two apps to be set as “default” at the same time. This way you only get one text notification regardless of how many apps you have installed. Just tell the phone which one to use.

Additionally, when you first open many apps like Textra, there will be a large button at the bottom. Make this process even easier instead of messing around with the settings menu.

As of now this is the only text app that can send and receive text messages or alert you. If you chose Textra (or others), go in and customize it as you see fit. Change everything from the font, style, colors, balloon colors and even the notification icon. You can also change them for each contact to make your Note 8 more personal. This level of customization is not available in Samsung’s Messages app. While you’re here, learn how to use the Note 8 emoji keyboard or check out these 10 cool things the Galaxy Note 8 can do.
