How to Change Search Default on Kindle Fire Tablets

One of the tasks we like to do on the tablet is Search. For some reason, the very personal form factor lends itself to searching the internet for information, content or something to buy. Whether we are searching in a browser, from within an App or from the Home Screen, Search is a function that many Tablet users will benefit from. Note that there are two places you can start a general web search on Kindle Fire Tablets. You can do this from the address bar in the Silk browser or select the Search icon in the Category menu bar at the top of the Home Screen. It’s the magnifying glass located entirely to the left at the top of your screen.

If you choose to search from the Home Screen, entering a search query will open a new search page offering a space to enter your query and recent search history.

From this search page, you will be redirected to the Silk browser for your results.

So, to change your search preferences on Kindle Fire Tablets, do the following:

First, swipe down from the top of your screen and select Settings.

Then select Applications.

At the bottom of the page, you will see a list of Amazon apps installed on your device. Select Silk Browser towards the bottom of this list.

At the top of the next Settings page you will see Search Engine. Select that entry.

A popup will appear and present you with three options: Bing (default), Google and Yahoo!.
