How to Change Netflix Quality Settings

Having issues with Netflix streaming at home with more people online in your home and neighborhood? You can limit your Netflix streaming quality and this will help you stream without buffering.

While there is some talk of Netflix lowering the quality for everyone, you can limit your Netflix quality this way to use less data and avoid buffering at home or on your phone.

There’s a good chance you’re on Auto, which picks the best quality for your connection, but if you’re currently having trouble streaming, you might want to switch to Medium.

You will need to check the settings on the Netflix website and also change the settings in the app on your phone or tablet.

  1. Sign in to your Netflix account
  2. Choose your profile
  3. Click on your Profile in the top right
  4. In My Profile, click on Playback Settings.
  5. Choose Medium or Low if you want lower quality settings.

It will take up to eight hours for the changes you selected to take effect. You can easily change this to Auto or High later.

Another option you can use to avoid buffering is to download movies or TV shows to your iPad or tablet and play them later. This won’t use less data unless you choose low settings, but it can avoid buffering.
