One of our favorite aspects is that Samsung allows a different image for both the lock screen and the home screen. Additionally, they offer tons of customization, app shortcuts, and themes so you can make your phone as personal as possible.
With so many features, controls, and settings, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with the Galaxy S9. However, the wallpaper controls are pretty easy to master. Once you know everything this phone has to offer, you’ll want to start with something as simple as customizing the lock screen and wallpaper.
How to Change Galaxy S9 Lock Screen and Wallpaper
There are several different ways to change the background image on your phone. However, it can be confusing because when you go to it it goes to the Samsung theme engine and not somewhere to change the wallpaper. And when you hold down an empty area of your screen, you will see a different menu to change the wallpaper. They both do the same thing, you just have multiple options.
So, if you only want to apply your own image or photo for a wallpaper, follow these steps instead of using Samsung’s confusing theme store.
Press and hold an empty area to apply Galaxy S9 wallpaper
This is by far the easiest and fastest way to add wallpaper to the Galaxy S9. You can quickly browse through their pre-loaded images or choose one of your own. Including images you downloaded or photos from your gallery or camera. Find what you want and hit the apply button. This is how you use the photos on your smartphone.
You can even use a slow motion video shot with powerful new cameras as a GIF for your wallpaper or lock screen. Pretty cool, right? Otherwise, get beautiful wallpapers like mine in Samsung theme store or Download Zedge. A popular app for smartphone customization. For the best experience, make sure your video is at least 1080p Full HD.
Lock screen Wallpaper
You probably noticed it in the instructions above or when adding a wallpaper yourself, but adding a wallpaper to the lock screen is just as simple. In fact, Samsung gives you the option to apply any image to the lock screen, home screen or both at the same time. Follow the same steps above for the lock screen. Press an empty space, tap the wallpapers, browse, then hit Apply. When you find the picture you want to use and hit the apply button, the phone will ask you:
If you only want one photo, choose both, or add a different image for each area on the device. I have a Packers logo on my lock screen and a dark, fancy wallpaper everywhere else. The choice is yours.

Samsung doesn’t explain the theme system, but all you have to do is find the one you want, tap download, then select .
When you first open the theme store, it will default to wallpapers. There are tons of recommendations and popular options to choose from. The first square at the top of the page is your “Gallery,” where you can choose to use your own photos instead of those listed. At the bottom are columns for each customization category. Choose one to get started.
If at any point you change your wallpaper, theme, icons or always-on display but want to revert to it, this is where to start. Tap the category from the columns below, then select the first panel at the top. This is your default wallpaper or default theme.
Now, browse through all the available options and find something you love. Once you find the perfect icons or theme, tap download, then apply.
