The Samsung Galaxy S5 went on sale in the United States last week, and we’re already getting a lot of questions from fans and users looking for more ways to use and enjoy the smartphone. Before we get started, you’ll want to check out our 50 Galaxy S5 Tips, Tricks, and Hidden Features, then take a look at the how-to video below.

Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to change Galaxy S5 lock screen settings, features, wallpaper and even animation effects. The settings are not written for you and changing the wallpaper is not very obvious, but these tasks are very easy.

Instructions

For starters, you’ll want to go to the settings panel by swiping down the notification bar at the top of the screen and tapping the gear-shaped icon, or flipping your app tray to find it there. Once in settings, you will see “lock screen” in the first category of quick settings. This is one of the main areas.

Here you can take a chance on lock screen security and all that, but we are not talking about adding a password, this is how you can change the look and features on the lock screen.

It doesn’t have tons of app shortcuts like the HTC One M8 offers, but you can still toggle all the options mentioned above.

Additionally, users will want to change the lock screen wallpaper to something a little more personal, as we explained at the end of the video above. For those who didn’t watch our quick hands-on video, here’s how to change the lock screen wallpaper on the Galaxy S5.

Just like on devices in the past, just long-press anywhere on the home screen without an icon. This brings up the edit mode where you can add widgets, change home screen settings and also change the wallpaper. Select “wallpaper” as shown below, then choose “lock screen” instead of your home screen. These can be independent of each other or be the same photo if you prefer.

By default the Galaxy S5 has nine wallpaper options for the lock screen, but you can always choose “more images” and choose from your own personal collection of beautiful wallpapers. From here you will select the wallpaper of your choice for your lock screen and hit the Set Wallpaper button at the top. It’s that easy.

You’re done. The simple steps outlined above are all you need to know to make the Galaxy S5 lock screen a little more personal. It’s nice to have dual clock and camera shortcuts, but some buyers prefer to keep things simple, so thankfully we have tons of options.
