So without further delay, let’s check out how we can change the default search options in Google Chrome on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS.
Change Default Search Engine in Chrome on Windows, Mac and Linux
Note: I’m using Windows for this demo, but the process for changing the default search engine in Chrome is the same on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
- Open Google Chrome and click the ‘More’ button (three dots) in the top right. Click on ‘Settings’ from the drop-down menu.
Note: You can also enter the Chrome settings by typing. chrome://settings
In the Chrome address bar and pressing Enter.
- Now select ‘Search Engine’ in the left pane or go to ‘Search engine used in address bar’. Click the down arrow.
- Choose a new default search engine from the available options.
- You can also add, edit or remove other search engines. To do this, go to ‘Search Engine’ > ‘Manage Search Engines’ on the same settings page.
- Now click the ‘More’ button [1] You can also select the ‘Add’ button next to a search option to edit or delete manually. [2] To add any search provider of your choice.
This much. You have successfully changed the default search engine in Chrome on your computer.
Change Default Search Engine in Chrome on Android
- Open the Chrome app and tap “More” (three dots) in the top right corner. Now press ‘Settings’. (If you can’t see the three dots, tap the tab counter first to access the menu).
- Then, under ‘Basic Information’, tap ‘Search engine’. You can now choose the search engine you want to use. As you can see, I chose the privacy oriented one DuckDuckGo.
To add more search engine options, simply visit a search provider in Chrome; automatically added to the list.
Change Default Search Engine in Chrome on iOS and iPadOS
