How to Capture Slow Motion Video on iPhone 5s?

The iPhone 5s was launched a week ago, and new owners are welcomed with a host of new features like the fingerprint sensor, new color options and camera improvements. One of the new features in the Camera section is the “Slow Motion” setting, which lets you record video and then slow it down up to four times slower than real time.

Apple thinks this will give your home videos a bit more enjoyment, and it can be especially useful in fast-action situations. iPhone 5s also comes with the ability to take 10 photos per second in a new “Burst Mode”, if you’re more into taking photos than video, but in this how-to section, we focus on how you can record a video. slow motion video and then share it with your friends and family.

Slow Motion Video Recording

The Slow Motion option in the Camera app is only available on the new iPhone 5s, so if you have an older iPhone device, you’re out of luck. To get to the new feature, open the Camera app and (i.e., if the Camera app is automatically loaded in the setting by default. Swipe right twice and you’ll switch to the mode and because at the bottom just above the Shutter button you’ll see “Slow Motion”).

Start recording your video by tapping the big red shutter button and then press it again whenever you want to stop recording. Tap the thumbnail in the lower left corner to view your video. This will open your video where you can view it, and a timeline with two markers placed at the top. This is where you can set where you want the slow motion action to start and stop in the video, and you can adjust them by dragging them along the timeline with your finger.

To share your Slow Motion video with friends or family, open the Photos app and tap on your video you just created. In the lower left corner you will see a small icon with an upward pointing arrow; Tap this to bring up sharing options.

From here you can choose the service you want to share. Your options are Apple’s AirDrop (send directly to another iPhone user), text via iMessage, email, upload to YouTube or Vimeo, and share to Facebook. You can also beam it to your Apple TV via AirPlay to play on the big screen of your living room.

Once you tap an option, simply follow the given instructions to continue. You may need to sign in to these services to complete the steps. Finally, after all is said and done, you should receive a “Upload Successful” or “Your video shared” confirmation.
