How To Buy Amazon Echo Dot Without Amazon Echo

Amazon recently announced the Amazon Echo Dot, a smaller version of the wildly popular Amazon Echo virtual assistant. Here’s how to buy without Amazon Echo, effectively bypassing the required requirement.

The Amazon Echo is arguably one of Amazon’s most successful hardware products ever. Of course, the Fire TV and Kindle line of e-readers did as well, but the Echo is a somewhat unique device.

In any case, Amazon has announced the Echo Dot, which is almost identical to the Echo, but much smaller as it doesn’t have the big speaker that the Echo has. It still has a built-in speaker, but it’s not that powerful. Fortunately, if you want to play music at a decent volume, you can connect third-party Bluetooth speakers to it.

The Amazon Echo Dot costs $89 (more than half of the Echo) and will launch on March 31. You can pre-order the device right now, but you’ll need to be an Amazon Prime member in addition to already owning it. Amazon Echo or Fire TV, because the company wants you to order the Echo Dot through Amazon’s Alexa Voice Shopping.

That means you’re out of luck if you don’t have an Amazon Echo or a Fire TV, but there is actually a workaround that will let you buy the Echo Dot without needing an original Echo or a Fire TV device.
