Amazon recently announced the Amazon Echo Dot, a smaller version of the wildly popular Amazon Echo virtual assistant. Here’s how to buy without Amazon Echo, effectively bypassing the required requirement.
The Amazon Echo is arguably one of Amazon’s most successful hardware products ever. Of course, the Fire TV and Kindle line of e-readers did as well, but the Echo is a somewhat unique device.
It’s essentially a Siri rival, but instead of the virtual assistant living on your smartphone, it lives in its own separate boxes that come with a built-in speaker and an array of microphones. It connects to your smartphone, but you don’t need it to use Echo.
In any case, Amazon has announced the Echo Dot, which is almost identical to the Echo, but much smaller as it doesn’t have the big speaker that the Echo has. It still has a built-in speaker, but it’s not that powerful. Fortunately, if you want to play music at a decent volume, you can connect third-party Bluetooth speakers to it.
The Amazon Echo Dot costs $89 (more than half of the Echo) and will launch on March 31. You can pre-order the device right now, but you’ll need to be an Amazon Prime member in addition to already owning it. Amazon Echo or Fire TV, because the company wants you to order the Echo Dot through Amazon’s Alexa Voice Shopping.
That means you’re out of luck if you don’t have an Amazon Echo or a Fire TV, but there is actually a workaround that will let you buy the Echo Dot without needing an original Echo or a Fire TV device.
The workaround involves navigating to a specific link only. Going this URL It lets you click a pre-order button and purchase the Echo Dot, just like any other product on Amazon.
Moreover Review the Amazon mobile app To pre-order. Search for “Echo Dot” in the iOS app, then swipe right to add the item to your cart. From there, you can go through the checkout process and you’re good to go.
This particular method will not work on Android devices, but there is a different workaround you can try. Tap the microphone button in the Amazon app on your Android device and say “Add Echo Dot to Cart”. If successful, the Echo Dot will be waiting for you in your shopping cart when you go to checkout.
If that doesn’t work in the Amazon app on your Android device, other users have said it works in the Amazon Underground app.
Unfortunately, whichever method you use, you still need to be an Amazon Prime member to purchase the Echo Dot or the new Amazon Tap. However, the company is likely to open orders for everyone at some point in the future.
