If you need to block a certain person from calling you on your iPhone, here’s how to do it in iOS 8.
Sometimes you get calls from spammers or your ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend keeps calling you and doesn’t go. In iOS 8, there is an easy way to block a number from contacting you via voice call, text message, or FaceTime chat on iPhone. Users can create their own blacklists if you wish and simply cut ties with people who are annoying.
In iOS 8, there are several ways to prevent someone from contacting you, and we’re going to show you the different ways you can never hear from a spammer or your ex again.
How to Block Calls and Other Contact Forms
To prevent a number from contacting you, there are two ways to block it. The first way is through the Settings app, and you can select a contact from your contact list to block them privately. The second method is if it is an unknown number. At this point, you can block it via the Phone app, which I’ll show you below.
First, though, here’s how to block a number from someone you know.
Open the app and scroll down until you see and . These are three different sections, but after that the instructions are the same for each section.
Tap one and then select . Tap on it and select the contact you want to block from your contact list. Repeat this step for and .
To unblock someone, simply go back to their section or tap their icon in the top right corner. From there, tap the small round red icon and then tap .
How to Block Calls From Unknown People
To block an unfamiliar phone number (likely the annoying ex-boyfriend who spammed or got a new number), open the app and tap the tab at the bottom. This will give you a list of all your recent incoming and outgoing calls.
Next to each number on the right is a small letter “i” with a circle around it. Tap next to the number you want to block and scroll down until you see it. Apple will warn you that “you will not receive phone calls, messages, or FaceTime from people on the blocked list.” If that’s okay, tap on it to finish the job.
Likewise, if you want to unblock the contact, go back to the menu page where you would normally block the contact, but instead use the . Tap on it to unblock this person.
For what it’s worth, the method above will also work with your known contacts, so technically you don’t even have to go to the Settings app to add a blocked contact because you can do it all right from the Phone app. However, both methods are at your disposal and you can decide which one is faster and easier for you.
